GOP CONGRESS: HEY LET’S IMPEACH THE WHITE HOUSE CHEF!

The horrible excuse for a Congress has gone impeachment happy. These snowflakes want to impeach Merritt Garland because the whining jerks weren’t happy with the Hunter Biden investigation.

Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy could impeach Attorney General Merrick Garland over the weaponization of the Department of Justice.

Two IRS whistleblowers have testified before congress that the DOJ’s decisions in their Hunter Biden Probe were “influenced by politics.”

McCarthy wrote, “If the whistleblowers’ allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland’s weaponization of DOJ.”

IRS Criminal Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley Jr., who oversaw the Hunter Biden investigation, had testified to the Ways and Means Committee that he was told that U.S. Attorney David Weiss attempted to bring charges against Hunter Biden earlier on in the investigation in other districts, but was denied by DOJ leadership. Shapley also testified Weiss requested special counsel privileges and was denied by Garland.

 

WEICKER, A RELIC OF THE SANE GOP ERA DIES

Lowell P. Weicker Jr., a Republican U.S. senator who tussled with his own party during the Watergate hearings, championed legislation to protect people with disabilities and later was elected Connecticut governor as an independent, died Wednesday. He was 92.

Weicker's death at a hospital in Middletown, Conn., after a short illness, was confirmed by his family in a statement released by a spokesperson.

With a 6-foot-6-inch frame and a shoot-from-the-hip style, Weicker was a leading figure in Connecticut politics from his first election to the General Assembly in 1962 until he decided against running for a second term as governor in 1994.

He inspired strong feelings among many people he met. In one poll, opinion was split over whether Weicker was “decisive and courageous,” or “inflexible and arrogant.”

 “I think he was just incredibly genuine, a little unfiltered,” Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, a Democrat who considered Weicker a friend, told the Associated Press in 2021. “And we sort of miss that in this day and age with the teleprompter.”

Elected in 1990 to his single term as governor, Weicker restructured Connecticut’s revenue system, shepherding in a new income tax despite vocal opposition. He also helped craft a compact with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation which ultimately brought casino gambling to eastern Connecticut.

Nationally, Weicker’s political marquee burned brightest during the 1973 hearings of the Senate’s special committee on Watergate. One of three Republicans on the seven-member panel, the freshman senator was not afraid to criticize President Richard Nixon, his own party or the attempted cover-up.

In his 1995 autobiography “Maverick: A Life in Politics,” Weicker said he didn’t volunteer for a spot othe committee to be an “anti-Nixon man,” or a “tough prosecutor,” acknowledging that he supported Nixon politically and how Nixon campaigned for him in 1968 and 1970.

“More and more, events were making it clear that the Nixon White House was a cauldron of corruption,” Weicker wrote. “And even as disclosures kept coming, more and more national leaders were acting as though nothing especially unusual had happened.”

Barry Sussman, a former Washington Post editor who worked with Weicker on his autobiography, credited Weicker with taking the Watergate scandal more seriously than his Senate colleagues and for investigating whether Nixon underreported his income.

 BIDEN DOES ROOSEVELTIAN THINGS TO PROPEL BROADBAND FOR ALL

President Biden did for the internet what the Tennessee Valley Authority did for electricity in the south I the 1930s. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a federally owned electric utility corporation in the United States. TVA's service area covers all of Tennessee, portions of Alabama, Mississippi, and Kentucky, and small areas of Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia. While owned by the federal government, TVA receives no taxpayer funding and operates similarly to a private for-profit company. It is headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, and is the sixth largest power supplier and largest public utility in the country.

The TVA was created by Congress in 1933 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. Its initial purpose was to provide navigation, flood control, electricity generation, fertilizer manufacturing, regional planning, and economic development to the Tennessee Valley, a region that had suffered from lack of infrastructure and poverty during the Great Depression, relative to the rest of the nation. TVA was envisioned both as a power supplier and a regional economic development agency that would work to help modernize the region's economy and society

President Joe Biden today announced how $42 billion in funding to bolster broadband internet access will be allocated. The investment, which was funded by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to give all Americans access to high-speed internet by 2030.

Texas is getting the largest slice of funding with $3.3 billion. Eighteen other states are receiving over $1 billion, including Alabama, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington. Every state is getting at least $107 million. Several US territories are included in the program, with $27 million allocated to the US Virgin Islands receiving and $334 million earmarked for Puerto Rico.

"With these allocations and other Biden administration investments, all 50 states, DC and the territories now have the resources to connect every resident and small business to reliable, affordable high-speed internet by 2030," the White House said in a statement.

Last year, the White House announced an initiative that would allocate at least $100 million to each state through the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program. The remainder of the funding was on hold until the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) drew up a more detailed coverage map showing which homes and businesses lacked high-speed internet access. The funding will be allocated based on the map.

The FCC released its first draft of the overhauled map, which incorporates more granular data, in November. Still, politicians on both sides of the aisle were concerned it left out millions of businesses and homes and urged the White House to delay the broadband funding efforts until issues were resolved.

After taking feedback from the public and states, the FCC unveiled an updated version in May. According to The Washington Post, the updated map addressed around 4 million mistakes, resulting in approximately half a million more homes, businesses and other locations without any internet access being identified. In all, the FCC determined that more than 8.3 million homes and businesses lack access to high-speed internet.

 

CARTWRIGHT ANNOUNCES $1.16 BILLION FOR PENNSYLVANIA BROADBAND UPGRADES

Congressman Matt Cartwright (PA-8), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, today announced that Pennsylvania will receive $1.16 billion for broadband upgrades thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

President Joe Biden announced earlier today more than $42.5 billion to expand high-speed internet access nationwide and the method for deployment to the states. 

"Now more than ever, the need for broadband to connect businesses with new markets and new customers is essential for businesses in rural areas of our district," said Congressman Cartwright. "Unfortunately, too many of these small and medium-sized businesses don’t have the digital tools they need to grow and prosper. This investment in America, and specifically rural Pennsylvania, is a game changer when it comes to getting connected to affordable and reliable high-speed broadband internet at home, at work, and in our schools.  I’m proud to have supported this bipartisan legislation."

Initial proposals must be submitted to the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PDBA) by the end of the year.  Created in December of 2021, the PDBA is an independent agency of the PA Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). The authority is responsible for creating a state-wide broadband plan and distributing federal monies for broadband expansion projects in unserved and underserved areas of Pennsylvania.

Under the rules of the program, states must prioritize connecting predominantly was before bolstering service in under served  areas.

U.S. Senator Bob Casey’s legislation, Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, is going into effect, ensuring pregnant workers are treated fairly in the workplace. The bipartisan legislation requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations—such as additional bathroom breaks or a stool for workers who stand—so that pregnant women can continue to work safely. 

“It took 10 years of fighting to get this passed, but today, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act is now the law of the land,” said Senator Casey. “This law is simple: it ensures that pregnant workers have the right to reasonable accommodations, like a stool or water bottle, while at work. Women in Pennsylvania and around the country can breathe easy knowing they do not have to choose between their jobs and a healthy pregnancy.”

Senator Casey first introduced the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act in 2012. Since then, Casey has repeatedly introduced the bill and advocated for its passage. The legislation passed as an amendment to the FY23 federal spending bill.

GOVERNOR SHAPIRO ANNOUNCES PENNSYLVANIA WILL RECEIVE $1.16 BILLION IN NEW FEDERAL FUNDING TO EXPAND AFFORDABLE, HIGH-SPEED INTERNET ACCESS ACROSS THE COMMONWEALTH

Governor Josh Shapiro announced the Commonwealth will receive more than $1.16 billion in federal funding to expand broadband in unserved and underserved areas to make sure every Pennsylvanian has access to affordable, high-speed internet. The funding is coming to Pennsylvania through the federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program and is part of President Biden’s “Internet for All” initiative.

The BEAD funding will be used to extend broadband infrastructure to areas of the Commonwealth that currently lack access to reliable, high-speed internet. Thanks to this significant investment, the Shapiro Administration will now have the resources it needs to connect Pennsylvanians to the internet and ensure they can go to school, start and grow businesses, and access telemedicine no matter where they live.

Since day one, Governor Shapiro has said extending and expanding access to broadband across the Commonwealth and making connections more reliable and affordable for Pennsylvanians is a top priority of his Administration.

“By expanding access to affordable, high-speed internet to every Pennsylvanian, we can create real opportunities for our students, our businesses, and our communities to learn, grow, and thrive,” said Governor Josh Shapiro. “Thanks to this historic investment from the federal government, my Administration has the resources to work with our community partners across the Commonwealth to bring reliable internet at high speeds and for affordable prices to every corner and every community in the Commonwealth.”

The $1.16 billion in BEAD funding to the Commonwealth will be administered by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (Authority), an independent, bipartisan agency created by law in December 2021.

“We’re thrilled the Commonwealth is receiving this historic allocation — we’ve worked hard over the last year to ensure Pennsylvania received the funding it needs to finally address the connectivity issues impacting our communities,” said Brandon Carson, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority. “Everyone in the Commonwealth should have access to affordable, high-speed internet and the Authority is committed to making that a reality.

In preparation for this announcement, the Authority worked with Penn State Extension to identify more than 50,000 locations in Pennsylvania that lack access to high-speed internet but weren’t included in the federal government’s initial survey. So far, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has upheld more than 28,000 of those challenges, making those locations eligible for federal BEAD funding and helping ensure Pennsylvania received its share of the BEAD funding.

The Authority is now working to complete a five-year action plan for Pennsylvania’s BEAD allocation, which must be submitted to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) by August 12, 2023. Pennsylvania will receive the BEAD funding in 2024 following the NTIA’s approval of the plan. The Authority plans to award subgrants to approved, eligible applicants before the end of 2024.

This past Friday, the Authority encouraged Pennsylvanians to participate in community engagement events that are being held around the Commonwealth throughout the summer. Feedback will be collected from these events, as well as an online survey, and used to help shape broadband programs, including the five-year BEAD action plan.

To date, Pennsylvania has received more than $1.5 billion in federal funding allocations for its broadband efforts. In addition to the BEAD funding, Pennsylvania also received $279 million in funding through the Capital Projects Fund and $6.6 million in federal planning funds in 2022.

I heard Rob O’Donnell on the radio the other day talking about how he thought Matt Cartwright was just a regular run of the mill politician who wasn’t his cup of tea. He was saying though that Cartwright did something he liked but again described Cartwright as a petty politico not doing much for the people. Well here are the facts. 

In his tenure Cartwright has helped 1,207 people, responded to 97,133 constituents and get this brought in  $274,632,485 IN FEDERAL DOLLARS. Cartwright was in the minority FOUR TIMES and brought back that much money.

Maybe O’Donnell should get his head out of his butt and take a closer look at the record before he starts maligning a Congressman that does stuff rather than sit there and obstruct.  Nary a word from this sycophant on Republican Congressman who get SHIT for their district. Just another GOP mouthpiece who has the "I got mine but we can't have yours" selfish and unpatriotic ideology that a true TRampanzee is. A shame he i taking up air space.

 GOP ABUSERS OF CONGRESS TURN OUT TO BE THE REAL SNOWFLAKES!

The Republicans in the Congress have once again disgraced themselves by voting to censure a fellow member for telling the truth. After failing to wrangle the votes last week, House Republicans mustered the majority needed to censure Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) on Wednesday. That move is among the latest Republican attacks against prominent Democrats — including members of the Biden administration and Congress — and it’s one that’s aimed at energizing the GOP base ahead of the 2024 election.

Republicans targeted Schiff specifically because of his leading role in former President Donald Trump’s first impeachment proceeding as well as his role in investigating possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia. As part of the House Intelligence Committee inquiry into the subject, Schiff alleged there was strong evidence of potential collusion, though Republicans argue that special counsel Robert Mueller’s report later disputed this conclusion.

The only reason why Diaper Don was not named as a criminal in the probe is because there is an inane rule somewhere that a sitting President can’t be charged. In all, 34 people and three companies have been criminally charged as a result of the probe. Was Schiff lying about that?

13 Russians implicated in election interference: Mueller's team indicted thirteen Russian citizens, the Internet Research Agency (IRA), Concord Management and Consulting and Concord Catering with conducting social media campaigns about the U.S. elections. Twelve of the Russian defendants, who were alleged to be members of the Russian GRU cyber espionage group known as Fancy Bear, were charged in June 2018 with hacking and leaking DNC emails.  The other Russian indicted, who was not a direct employee of Fancy Bear, was Russian business tycoon Yevgeny Prigozhin, who was alleged to have served as the financier for the organization. The US government dropped all charges against Concord Management and Consulting and Concord Catering in March 2020.  In November 2019, Time magazine reported that it was "unlikely that any of the Russians will ever face a trial in the United States, but the charges make it harder for them to travel overseas".

Maria Butina, who had claimed to be a Russian gun activist, was investigated by the Special Counsel investigators and then prosecuted by the National Security Law Unit. She was imprisoned for conspiracy to act as an unregistered foreign agent after entering a guilty plea.

Michael Cohen, Trump's personal lawyer, pled guilty to making hush payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal in violation of campaign finance laws, and was convicted for several unrelated counts of bank and tax fraud.

Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, who had been appointed as National Security Advisor by the incoming Trump administration, was dismissed from his position and later pled guilty to making false statements to FBI investigators about his conversations with Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition.

Rick Gates, former Trump Deputy Campaign Chairman, was indicted along with Paul Manafort in October 2017 on charges related to their consultation work with pro-Russian political figures in Ukraine. The charges were dropped after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy against the United States for making false statements in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections.

Konstantin Kilimnik, Manafort's business partner in Ukraine, was indicted for witness tampering at the behest of Manafort; Kilimnik is suspected of working for Russian intelligence.

Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign chairman was found guilty on eight felony counts of tax evasion and bank fraud pursuant to his earlier lobbying activities for the Party of Regions of former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovich. He later pled guilty to conspiracy to defraud and obstruction of justice;[ in total, he was sentenced to over seven years in jail  in February 2018.

George Papadopoulos, Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, was convicted for making false statements to the FBI.

Roger Stone, a longtime Trump advisor who had met with a Russian person offering to sell derogatory financial information about Hillary Clinton, was indicted on seven charges of lying to Congress and witness tampering. He pled not guilty. The jury subsequently found him guilty on all seven counts.

Alex van der Zwaan, a Dutch lawyer with the global law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, he pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement to investigators while answering questions about Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections.

On March 22, 2019, the special counsel's office concluded their investigation and sent a report to the Department of Justice where it was received by Attorney General William Barr. Barr, at Trump's nomination, had become attorney general on February 14, 2019, gaining oversight of the investigation from Trump-appointed Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker. Whitaker had assumed oversight from Rosenstein on November 7, 2018, after the resignation of then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who had recused himself from the investigation. Both Barr and Whitaker had been critical of the Mueller investigation before their appointments. Barr has faced bipartisan pressure to release the full report to the public, to the maximum extent permissible by law.

On March 24, 2019, Attorney General Barr sent a four-page letter to Congress regarding the special counsel's findings regarding Russian interference and obstruction of justice.[191] Barr said that on the question of Russian interference in the election, Mueller detailed two ways in which Russia attempted to influence the election, firstly disinformation and social media campaigns by the Internet Research Agency to cause social discord, and secondly computer hacking and strategic release of emails from the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign and Democratic Party organizations.[However, Barr quoted the report as saying: "[T]he investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities."

On the question of obstruction of justice, Barr said no conclusion was reached by the special counsel, noting that Mueller wrote "WHILE THIS REPORT DOES NOT CONCLUDE THAT THE PRESIDENT COMMITTED A CRIME, IT ALSO DOES NOT EXONERATE HIM. To censure Schiff is a total fraud and lie.

The GOP Congress Dan Meuser among them are revenge filled creeps who are really little babies that reject reality. In effect, they are SNOWFLAKES. To Schiff, cheers, to the GOP fools, a little tune that fits you so well.

TRUMP’S SPEEDY TRIAL

Donald Trump has been proclaiming his innocence with his big mouth. The best way to clear his name is with a speedy trial. Yesterday the federal judge presiding over the prosecution of former President Donald J. Trump in the classified documents case set an aggressive schedule on Tuesday, ordering a trial to begin as soon as Aug. 14.

The timeline set by the judge, Aileen M. Cannon, is likely to be delayed by extensive pretrial litigation — including over how to handle classified material — and its brisk pace seems in keeping with a schedule set under the Speedy Trial Act. In each of four other criminal trials the judge has overseen that were identified in a New York Times  she has initially set a relatively quick trial date and later pushed it back.

The Judge was sparked by a higher court for her previous rulings. Now this is too early to say, but I’m sure Trump will use his delay, delay strategy to not fess up and be ghee coward he really is. But Trump has to contend with this. Judges, even rookies like Cannon are going to be around logger than Diaper Don. If I were close to her, I’d ask “do you really want to put your lot in with a guy who will go down in history as the worst corrupt President in our history?”

Cannon appears to be taking the long view because she knows the world is watching. As is history. Trump who disregards historical facts and critical thinking will never understand that.

HUNTER BIDEN AND THE GOP WHINERS

Hunter Biden pleads guilty the other day and will receive no jail time. Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, will plead guilty to two tax misdemeanors and struck a deal with federal prosecutors to resolve a felony gun charge, the Justice Department said Tuesday in court filings.

As part of the plea agreement, the Justice Department has agreed to recommend a sentence of probation for the two counts of failing to pay taxes in a timely matter for the years 2017 and 2018, according to sources. Hunter Biden owed at least $100,000 in federal taxes for 2017, and at least $100,000 in 2018, but did not pay what was due to the Internal Revenue Service by the deadlines. A judge will have the final say on any sentence.

You’ll hear the right wingers say there is a two tier justice system and that young Biden got off easy. Again these GOP sycophants who tell you how much they love the Constitution are just fucking stupid.

Yes, fucking stupid.

1.   Biden took a plea. He did not whine or cry like big baby Trump. HE took responsibility for his actions.

2.  He was investigated by a TRUMP JUSTICE DEPARTMENT.

3.  The new President kept in office the sitting Attorney who was going to prosecute his son.

4.  Biden unlike Trump PAID his taxes.

5.  When Biden committed these crimes, he was a drug addict. What is Diet Coke boy’s excuse for his crimes?

6.  Hunter Biden was not an insurrectionist.

The issue I have with right wingers is this: you can’t go locking up someone who is a political opponent. It is NOT IN THE CONSTITUTION!  The sentence MUST FIT THE CRIME. MATT CARTWRIGHT INTRODUCES SERVE ACT

BIPARTISAN, BICAMERAL LEGISLATION WOULD ENSURE STUDENTS IN THE NATIONAL GUARD AND RESERVE CAN CONTINUE THEIR STUDIES AFTER SHORT-TERM DEPLOYMENT

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright ( along with U.S. Rep. Mike Ezell (R-Miss.) and U.S. Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) today introduced bipartisan legislation to ensure that students who serve in the National Guard and Reserve will be guaranteed readmission to their schools following a deployment.

The bicameral, bipartisan Servicemember Enrollment and Readmission for Valuable Education (SERVE) Act would amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to ensure that students called to serve in domestic, short-term National Guard and Reserve mobilizations are able to return to their studies.

“The SERVE Act is commonsense legislation to allow National Guard and Reserve members the ability to successfully pursue their educational and professional goals,” said Rep. Cartwright.  “No student servicemember should have to sacrifice their future because of a short-term emergency mobilization.”

“Our student service members in the National Guard and Reserve make the admirable decision to serve their nation and pursue an education at the same time.  The SERVE Act provides these heroes with peace of mind by ensuring that short-term emergency mobilizations will not negatively impact their academic future,” Rep. Ezell said.

“The men and women of the Guard and Reserve shouldn’t have their educational pursuits sidelined because they answer the call to serve, often to aid their fellow Americans in times of crisis,” Sen. Hyde-Smith said.  “A simple change to the Higher Ed Act will guarantee that these dedicated servicemembers can serve and study without disruptions.”

“Students in the Reserves and the National Guard selflessly serve their communities and our country, and they shouldn’t have to jeopardize their spot in school because they were called to serve,” said Sen. Hassan. “I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan legislation to give student National Guard and Reserve members who are mobilized for shorter missions the security of knowing that their spot in school will be waiting for them afterwards.”

Under current law (20 U.S.C § 1091c), the readmission requirements for servicemembers only guarantee readmittance to an educational institution if the student is deployed for more than 30 days.  Under this standard, National Guard and Reserve members mobilized for fewer than 30 days are not universally entitled to be promptly readmitted.

The SERVE Act would remove the “more than 30 days” stipulation and simply qualify National Guard and Reserve members “on active duty, active-duty training, or National Guard duty under State order or Federal authority.”  This change would guarantee a student will be readmitted promptly at the same academic status.

In 2020 alone, members of the National Guard and Reserve were mobilized to assist law enforcement in 38 states, to support severe weather events in 22 states, and to aid in wildfire suppression in another 19 states.  Many of those deployments lasted less than 30 days.

U.S. Senator Bob Casey  released the following statement on the conviction of the person responsible for the Tree of Life massacre trial in Pittsburgh:

“The verdict holds accountable the person responsible for the deadliest act of violence against the Jewish community in American history. This resounding conviction—guilty on all 63 counts, including hate crimes—is a clear rebuke of the hate and antisemitism that motivated the defendant to target worshippers observing Shabbat morning services across three congregations: Tree of Life, Dor Hadash, and New Light.

“In order to achieve a full measure of justice for the 11 worshippers who lost their lives and six more people injured, we must continue working to root out the antisemitism that plagues our Nation and our world to this day. Antisemitic incidents in the United States reached a new high in 2022, four years after this attack. We owe it to those who lost their lives, the members of these congregations, and the Jewish community in Pittsburgh and beyond to ensure this never happens again.

“I am praying for the families and loved ones of Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry Rabinowitz, Cecil Rosenthal, David Rosenthal, Bernice Simon, Sylvan Simon, Daniel Stein, Melvin Wax, and Irving Younger. May their memories be for a blessing."

 

GOVERNOR SHAPIRO, PENNDOT SECRETARY CARROLL ANNOUNCE I-95 WILL REOPEN THIS WEEKEND AS THE SHAPIRO ADMINISTRATION’S RESPONSE CONTINUES AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

THANKS TO THE COORDINATED STATE, FEDERAL, AND LOCAL RESPONSE AND THE 24/7 WORK OF CREWS ON THE SCENE, I-95 IS EXPECTED TO REOPEN THIS WEEKEND.

Governor Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Mike Carroll announced that I-95 will be reopened this weekend, ahead of the originally projected two-week timeline.

“Based on the tremendous progress these crews made over the weekend and the time it takes to complete the remaining steps, I can now say that we will have I-95 back open  this weekend,” said Governor Shapiro. “We have worked around the clock to get this done, and we’ve completed each phase safely and ahead of schedule. That’s all due to the incredible coordination with our local, state, and federal partners – and thanks to the hard-working men and women of the Philadelphia Building Trades who are making this happen.”

Under the leadership of Governor Shapiro and Secretary Carroll, crews have worked around the clock to reopen the roadway safely and as quickly as possible. Thanks to the coordinated partnership of PennDOT, the Biden Administration, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the City of Philadelphia, and the hard work of the Philadelphia Building Trades, crews have made fast progress to rebuild I-95 within two weeks of the collapse – well ahead of experts’ original predictions.

Last week, Governor Shapiro announced that demolition was completed in just four days – well in advance of experts’ original predictions. Throughout the holiday weekend, crews made significant additional progress by filling the gap with ultra-lightweight foamed glass aggregate to build up to surface level. This innovative approach was made possible with the aggregate material from a local Delaware County business, which has provided the ultra-lightweight foamed glass aggregate for use on other projects here in Pennsylvania, including the Philadelphia Navy Yard, and in other states across the country, including in New Jersey, Maine, Rhode Island, and others.

Throughout this week, crews will begin paving 3 new lanes in both directions. The Pennsylvania State Police will again escort trucks carrying the pavers up I-95 to make sure they get to the site safely and as quickly as possible as crews continue working around the clock to reopen I-95 this weekend.
