IGOR’S SINGING AND TRUMP WORLD IS WORRIED

Rachel Maddow reported the other day  on Rudy Giuliani associate Igor Fruman changing the plea in his federal case from "not guilty" to "guilty," and why the possibility that such a plea is part of a cooperation agreement is maybe and unsettling prospect for Giuliani, who is under federal investigation, and others in Donald Trump's circle.

This could be the tipping point in finally getting to the bottom of the Donald Trump scandals.  The very fact that this guy changed the plea tells me that he has sung.

The state Senate held a session on Monday for a single purpose: To remove Sen. Doug Mastriano as chairman of the Senate Intergovernmental Committee.

Mastriano, from Franklin County was replaced by Sen. Cris Dush, of Jefferson, who is tasked with taking lead on conducting an election integrity review. Mastriano will remain a member of the committee.

The change in the chairmanship stems from a feud that played out on Friday after Mastriano went on One American News Network and accused Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman, R-Centre County, of stonewalling efforts to conduct an Arizona-style “forensic investigation” of Pennsylvania’s 2020 presidential election.

Mastriano said Corman had undermined his efforts for the committee to meet to vote on issuing subpoenas to three counties – York, Tioga and Philadelphia – to turn over documents, information and equipment related to the 2020 general election and 2021 primary election.

Corman responded by accusing Mastriano of being more interested in politics and showmanship than actually getting things done. He appointed Dush to take over the chairmanship of the intergovernmental committee and further punished Mastriano by reassigning Mastriano’s staff to the president pro tempore’s office.

In the interview with the conservative television network, Mastriano said if someone else takes over the election review, “I have little confidence that a real investigation will ever take place.”

Dush, however, issued a statement on Friday, saying he intends to take the new responsibility of conducting an election integrity investigation seriously, with an eye toward restoring faith in the state’s elections.

Mastriano is running for Governor along with Lou Barletta. My dream ticket would be for these guys to team up and run against Josh Shapiro. (Penn Live, LuLac)

 

 

BIDEN DROPS IN POLLS

After two decades of combat, Americans by more than 2-1 say the war in Afghanistan, launched in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, wasn't worth it. In a new USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll, three of four predict the Taliban-led country will once again become a haven for terrorists targeting the United States.

For President Joe Biden, the cost of the war’s chaotic end has been steep. His overall job-approval rating now stands at 41% approve versus 55% who disapprove – a big drop in the closely watched barometer of political health. Until last week, national polls generally showed his approval rating above 50%.

Now, while he has held the backing of 87% of Democrats, only 32% of independents now say he's doing a good job.

The poll was taken Thursday through Monday, when the nation's headlines were dominated by scenes of desperate families trying to evacuate from the Kabul airport and a surge of COVID-19 cases across the United States. Half approved of his handling of the pandemic, 39% of his handling of the economy, 26% of his handling of the Afghan withdrawal.

The bottom line here is that Biden made a hard choice as President. That’s what they are supposed to do. The withdrawal was messy. Media outlets, left and right are calling it a disaster. Look, NO ONE WAS KILLED until this afternoon. Small consolation but those heroic deaths only prove Biden's point.  We can't tame savages. These deaths will strengthen the resolve of the military's mission. Now thousands of people are being evacuated in a timely and efficient manner. Biden’s worst enemies seem to be from his own party.

Democrats have a unique ability to eat their own. Republicans stand united even in the face of dishonesty and absence of truth and facts.

The Dems should suck it up and support THEIR guy. And PLEASE stop hand wringing about 2022. Do the JOB YOU WERE ELECTED TO DO, NOW and 2022 will take care of itself. (USA Today, LuLac)

 

REP. CARTWRIGHT WELCOMES AMTRAK NYC-SCRANTON ECONOMIC IMPACT ANALYSIS

STUDY SHOWS PASSENGER RAIL SERVICE BETWEEN NEPA AND NYC WOULD GENERATE $87 MILLION IN ECONOMIC ACTIVITY ANNUALLY E CARE OF ITSELF

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright welcomed Amtrak’s new economic impact analysis of its proposed New York-Scranton passenger rail route, finding that the service would generate $87 million in annual economic activity, plus $2.9 billion from one-time investments.

“Those of us who have been working for years on bringing passenger rail back to Northeastern Pennsylvania are gratified that Amtrak understands the kind of economic boon this train service can be for our whole region,” said Rep. Cartwright. “The success of this vision hangs on passage of the Build Back Better plan, which I’ll be focused on passing in the coming months in Washington.”

The initial analysis was conducted based on the proposed addition of Amtrak stops in Pennsylvania in Scranton, Tobyhanna, Mount Pocono and East Stroudsburg. It highlights benefits such as connections to more job and educational opportunities for smaller localities and reduced highway traffic congestion.

Senator Bob Casey  released the following statement on the passing of Richard Trumka, President of the AFL-CIO:

“I’m deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rich Trumka. A son of southwestern Pennsylvania, Rich served as President of the United Mine Workers during a difficult time for mine workers and their families. He fought for workers everywhere and worked to advance the cause of justice: social, economic and racial justice. Rich dedicated his life in service to American workers and families. I’m proud to have worked closely with Rich for many years and I was blessed by his friendship. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Barbara and his family, friends and AFL-CIO members across the country.”

Lee Marvin dies at the age of 63. .Known for his distinctive voice and premature white hair, Marvin initially appeared in supporting roles, mostly villains, soldiers, and other hardboiled characters. A prominent television role was that of Detective Lieutenant Frank Ballinger in the crime series M Squad (1957–1960). Marvin is best remembered for his lead roles as "tough guy" characters such as Charlie Strom in The Killers (1964), Rico Fardan in The Professionals (1966), Major John Reisman in The Dirty Dozen, Walker in Point Blank (both 1967), and the Sergeant in The Big Red One (1980). One of Marvin's more notable movie projects was Cat Ballou (1965), a comedy Western in which he played dual roles. For portraying both gunfighter Kid Shelleen and criminal Tim Strawn, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor, along with a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, an NBR Award, and the Silver Bear for Best Actor and this week in 1`987 the number one song in LuLac land and America was"Shake You Down" by Gregory Abbott.

This week we publish a tribute to the late activist Angel Jirau  who passed away last weekend. Ron Felton, former President of the NAACP Wilkes-Barre branch had this remembrance. 

RON FELTON ON ANGEL JIRAU

Yesterday,  when I was informed by a Times Leader reporter that Angel Jirau a former member of the Executive Committee of the Wilkes-Barre NAACP. I invited Angel to the branch because he appeared to be interested after attending one of events at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Wilkes-Barre.

The event was in '2007 after the Wilkes-Barre NAACP had returned from a history tour to the Great Blacks in Wax Museum in Baltimore,  MD. The Wilkes-Barre NAACP had chartered a bus to take many high school students and adults. It was our second tour in a series of three.

The event was held with struggling Youth Council and the event was the burying of the N-Word. A movement by the National NAACP. Angel Jirau was present at that event and other events that would be held by the local branch.

Angel was so excited when I extended an invitation to join the Executive Committee of the Wilkes-Barre NAACP  he went around telling everyone he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Wilkes-Barre NAACP.

As I was recovering from my accident and hospital stay. Angel Jirau and his partner Linda Kohut who had also served as 2nd Vice President of the branch. Put together a fundraiser for me. Angel Jirau's heart was always in the right place caring about the representation of communities of color and them having a voice in the City that many of them would call home.

Rest well Angel knowing that your presence and contribution left the world a better place than when you arrived.

WHEN THE EVERLY BROTHERS TRUMPED YANKEES-SOX

It was October the 16^th, 2003 and we were going to see Simon and Garfunkel. The tickets were pricey, the venue would be packed but the duos formerly known as Tom and Jerry were legends. If you were going to go to a concert and pay big bucks, you went to see legends. That same night the Yankees and Red Sox were facing off in the American League Championship Series. The teams were tied 3-3 and this game was being hyped all over the east coast.

Many baseball fans that night were hoping to get home in time to see the last few innings. When the concert started, there was a bit of a rumble. No Simon and Garfunkel yet. A warm up band most likely. Then the rumble turned into a roar when the crowd at The Arena,   when everyone realized that Phil and Don Everly were the first act, the crowd went nuts. Phil and Don’s music inspired many great rock and popular music entities like Simon n Garfkunkel.

Paul and Art were one thing but having the Everly  Brothers open up, well it made most of us forget about Aaron ****ing Boone and his winning home run  that night to keep the Red Sox cooling their jets until 2004.
