POLLING IN PA

With the 2022 midterm elections arriving in 6 week, Democratic candidates hold leads in the high profile gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, the Democratic nominee for Governor, holds a substantial lead over Republican nominee State Senator Doug Mastriano in the race to serve as the Commonwealth’s next chief executive. Including voters who are leaning to one candidate, Shapiro holds a 53% to 42% lead over Mastriano.

Mastriano has been a great help to Shapiro given his past utterances. Money has been drying up for his campaign and the folly of Trumpism has ben a cold splash in the water of GOP leaders.

In the Senate race, a seat representing Pennsylvania, Democrat John Fetterman holds a narrow lead over Republican Mehmet Oz. Fetterman, the state’s Lieutenant Governor, leads Oz by a margin of 49% to 44% among voters leaning to one candidate.

There will be two debates, one each for the races and if there are no catastrophic mistakes by Democrats, these leads should hold. Polling came from The Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion (MCIPO).

"MORON WHO HAS NO BUSINESS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT": TRUMP-DESANTIS COLD WAR DEVOLVES INTO INSULTS

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who recently made headlines for flying 48 migrants to Martha's Vineyard, was praised by Republicans for standing up against the Biden administration's immigration policies, but his political stunt has angered one of his closest allies – former President Donald Trump.

Trump has privately accused DeSantis of stealing his idea and taking the spotlight off of him so that DeSantis can generate a 2024 polling boost, according to Rolling Stone. Both of them are seen as potential rivals for the 2024 presidential nomination within the Republican Party, but one of them has out-fundraised the other.

DeSantis raised $177 million within the first six months of the year, surpassing Trump and breaking the gubernatorial fundraising record, according to OpenSecrets.

Neither of them has officially declared a 2024 presidential run, but DeSantis has toured swing states and headlined rallies for other Republicans on the ballot this November while Trump has quietly tracked his public appearances and polling numbers, according to his advisers.

Ron DeSantis tries to trump Trump with cynical, sadistic migrant flights

In private, he has made comments expressing his disdain for DeSantis, calling him a "phony." "He's ungrateful," Trump's privately complained, claiming that "I made him." The recent comments are a stark contrast to Trump's praise for DeSantis during his 2018 gubernatorial run, when the former president touted him as "my great friend" and "a tough, brilliant cookie."

Trump also said that the Florida Governor was FAT! Wait for it.....the obese Trump was calling te kettle black. With Republicans, ACCUSATION IS CONFESSION. This one came straight  from President FAT ASS HIMSELF.

HEARING EXPLORES GROWING NEED TO SUPPORT GRANDPARENTS

Representative Pashinski (Photo: LuLac arhives)

REP. PASHINSKI HIGHLIGHTS LEGISLATION TO HELP GRANDPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN

Addressing the rising number of multigenerational households across the state, Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski today hosted a House Democratic Policy Committee Hearing on the increasing number of grandparents raising grandchildren and the legislation and resources needed to support caregivers and children across Pennsylvania.

“I first became aware of this issue more than a decade ago when I was fortunate enough to meet several heroes in our communities – grandparents who stepped in to raise their grandchildren for various reasons,” said Pashinski, D-Luzerne. “We passed three bills in 2018 to create important resources for grandparents, bills that I’m very proud will help thousands of people in need. However, our work on this issue is not complete, and it’s one reason why I’m trying to pass House Bill 2858 that would provide for legal services – including adoption – that kinship care families desperately need.”

Held at the Henry Student Center at Wilkes University, Wednesday’s hearing consisted of grandparents who are raising their grandchildren, nonprofit founders and state officials. The hearing noted that the opioid epidemic has contributed to the number of kinship care families but also recognized that a multitude of reasons can lead to a family member stepping in to raise children.

“The stark reality is – and it happens for many reasons – grandparents raising grandchildren is a very real thing, and I know this has been going on for a very long time,” state Rep. Gina Curry, D-Delaware, said. “I’m thinking about the stigma in talking about the need to take care of family and grandchildren, and I’m concerned about people in my district who are in an isolated place because they may encounter language or cultural obstacles.”

Karen Barnes, president and founder of the nonprofit Grands Stepping Up in Delaware County, noted she has tried to work with numerous lawmakers and school districts, as well as, Grands Stepping Up Denis’ Pantry in Upper Darby, to reach families that otherwise wouldn’t be contacted because of language or cultural obstacles.

“Caregivers, including grandparents who are raising grandchildren, often face a myriad of challenges such as access to information about available benefits and resources, lack of adequate education and training, and financial assistance to help defray the costs of caregiving-related expenses,” said Deputy Secretary Steven Horner, PA Department of Aging. “The department’s Caregiver Support Program, administered statewide through the 52 Area Agencies on Aging, provides resources and assistance that focus on the caregiver’s well-being and alleviate the stresses associated with caregiving.”

Kinship caregivers sometimes don’t have legal custody of their grandchildren, and they can struggle with financial needs to pay for essentials and child care – oftentimes going without what they need.

“The ages of grandparents and the role of grandparents have changed, and I wanted to know how you get older adults to come forward to say they are raising their grandchildren and they need help,” said state Rep. Darisha Parker, D-Phila.

Testifiers noted that one of the biggest fears facing grandparents – specifically those stepping in to help parents who are suffering from substance use disorder – is that Children & Youth or police would intercede and take their grandchildren away. Natalie Hoprich, who is a grandmother raising her grandchildren, said grandparents need to realize authorities are not attempting to break up households. In recent years, Hoprich said, she has noticed it has become more acceptable for grandparents to come forward and hopes that enables even more to do so in the future.

“We have to start treating these heroic people not as grandparents but as the parents and caregivers they really are,” state Rep. Maureen Madden, D-Monroe, said. “Having been raised by a single dad and a grandmother, I know firsthand the challenges a family unit faces, and I am so grateful for the testifiers today for their tireless advocacy, their passion and, most importantly, their unquestionable love for their grandchildren. I’ve been proud to work closely with Representative Pashinski over the years on improving services and resources for families in these situations, and I know our work is not yet done. This was an enlightening and sometimes heartbreaking hearing, and it’s critical that we continue to spread the word of available resources and erase the stigma some grandparents unnecessarily feel.”

The hearing marked the third day of Policy Committee tours, roundtables and hearings in northeast Pennsylvania that also addressed coal mine reclamation and flood mitigation.

REP. CARTWRIGHT’S STATEMENT ON THE INVEST TO PROTECT ACT AND OTHER PUBLIC SAFETY LEGISLATION

Congressman Matt Cartwright (Photo: LuLac archives)

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright  released the following statement on the four-bill public safety package passed in the House. The legislation passed today includes The Invest to Protect Act, The Mental Health Justice Act, The Break the Cycle of Violence Act and The VICTIM Act¸ which aim to make communities safer by providing support to policing and community organizations to address crime and mental health issues.

“Every resident of Northeast Pennsylvania deserves to live in a safe community, one where you and your families can thrive. That's why I support legislation that gives our law enforcement heroes the tools they need to fight crime,” said Rep. Cartwright. “Today, I proudly voted to pass a robust public safety package that would increase money for local police departments and provide aid for de-escalation training and mental health services.”

The four bills in the package include:

·         The Invest to Protect Act will help small law enforcement agencies fund training, mental health support, recruitment and retention. This bill gives agencies the flexibility to spend money where it will have the most impact and makes meaningful investments in our officers and our communities.

·         The Mental Health Justice Act will help send mental health professionals to respond to mental health crises in our neighborhoods.

·         The Break the Cycle of Violence Act invests in effective, evidence-based community violence intervention initiatives.

·         The VICTIM Act will bolster the ability of police forces to solve homicides, sexual assaults, shootings and other violent crimes.

“We need to be tough on crime, but we also need to be smart about it. This legislation takes strong steps to build stronger, healthier relationships between law enforcement officers and those they serve. It allows us to all work together to help prevent crime, save lives and advance justice,” said Rep. Cartwright.

CASEY, CORNYN, SCHUMER, PELOSI, DELAURO, PASCRELL, FITZPATRICK, SPARTZ ARE URGING PRESIDENT BIDEN TO PROTECT AMERICAN WORKERS AND ADVANCE U.S. NATIONAL AND ECONOMIC SECURITY INTERESTS

NATIONAL CRITICAL CAPABILITIES DEFENSE ACT WOULD ESTABLISH OUTBOUND INVESTMENT SCREEN FOR CRITICAL CAPABILITIES

MEMBERS: “WHILE WE BELIEVE THAT THIS REVISED LEGISLATION PROVIDES THE U.S. WITH THE STRONGEST FOUNDATION TO COMPETE IN A GLOBAL ECONOMY, AMERICAN WORKERS, BUSINESSES AND OUR NATIONAL SECURITY CANNOT AFFORD TO WAIT.”RTERS OF OUTBOUND INVESTMENT LEGISLATION URGE ADMINISTRATION TO TAKE EXECUTIVE ACTION TO SAFEGUARD NATIONAL SECURITY, PROTECT SUPPLY CHAINS

Senator Bob Casey (Photo: LuLac archives)

U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA), John Cornyn (R-TX) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Victoria Spartz (R-IN) are sending a letter urging the Biden Administration to take immediate action to safeguard national security and supply chain resiliency on outbound investments to foreign adversaries. As supporters of legislation that would establish an outbound investment screen, the signatories are pushing for President Biden to issue an Executive Order to protect American workers and advance U.S. national and economic security interests.

“When we cede our manufacturing power and technological know-how to foreign adversaries, we are hurting our economy, our global competitiveness, American workers, industry and national security. Government action on this front is long overdue to address the scope and magnitude of these serious risks we face as a country,” the members of Congress wrote.

The National Critical Capabilities Defense Act would establish an interagency outbound investment review committee in order to better understand the vulnerabilities created in U.S. supply chains as private industries continue to offshore critical capabilities to China and other foreign adversaries.

September 27, 2022

The Honorable Joseph R. Biden

President of the United States

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Washington, DC 20500

Dear President Biden:

We write to you as the bipartisan and bicameral supporters of the National Critical Capabilities Defense Act (S. 1854 and H.R. 6323). We championed this legislation to enhance visibility on supply chain vulnerabilities and to prevent the offshoring of critical production capacity and intellectual property to our foreign adversaries, including the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Russian Federation, that threatens American workers and our national security. Through input and support received from stakeholders and your Administration, the sponsors are revising this bill to help the U.S. government strengthen national security and ensure the resilience of our critical supply chains through increased transparency and oversight over outbound investments.

We appreciate your Administration’s support for our efforts. While we believe that this revised legislation provides the U.S. with the strongest foundation to compete in a global economy, American workers, businesses and our national security cannot afford to wait. As deliberations continue in Congress, we urge your Administration to move forward with executive action—which can then be bolstered by statutory provisions—to safeguard our national security and supply chain resiliency on outbound investments to foreign adversaries. This is how the oversight of inbound foreign investment was initially established—Executive Order. This is an effort we have long supported and advocated for as lawmakers. Such action should include robust stakeholder engagement and congressional input and oversight from the committees of jurisdiction to provide certainty and clarity for all involved.

The pandemic shined a spotlight on just how exposed U.S. supply chains are and the severe cost of relying on foreign adversaries for our Nation’s critical capabilities. The PRC, for example, has an egregious track record of promoting intellectual property theft and forced technology transfer. While this unsettling trend is not new, we know action is needed to address vulnerabilities for many sectors of our economy so that we can advance U.S. national and economic security interests.

When we cede our manufacturing power and technological know-how to foreign adversaries, we are hurting our economy, our global competitiveness, American workers, industry and national security. Government action on this front is long overdue to address the scope and magnitude of these serious risks we face as a country.

Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to working with the Administration to safeguard our Nation’s critical capabilities. We hope that you will keep us updated about the Administration’s proposals on this important effort as they are being developed.

WOLF ADMINISTRATION ANNOUNCES FIRST-EVER PENNSYLVANIA SUSTAINABILITY SUMMIT

Governor Tom Wolf (LuLac archives)

Governor Tom Wolf announced that the PA GreenGov Council will host the commonwealth’s first-ever Sustainability Summit.

“We have a responsibility to future generations that requires us to act now to protect our environment and keep Pennsylvanians safe from the dangers of climate change,” said Gov. Wolf. “The GreenGov council is driving my administration’s work to support a healthier climate while lowering costs for taxpayers, and I thank them for their leadership and advocacy. Pennsylvania is proud to take the lead on advancing climate sustainability and resiliency, and this summit will promote collaboration to make our work go further and accomplish more.”

The Summit will bring together Pennsylvania’s leading sustainability experts, elected officials, state-agency leaders and policymakers for an exciting and informative series of conversations and presentations on the energy conservation and sustainability progress the commonwealth has made as well as the challenges it will face in the future. This event is free, open to all, and virtual, making it easy to attend and participate.

“Pennsylvania has made significant progress in the areas of energy conservation and sustainability,” said PA GreenGov Council Director Mark Hand. “The Sustainability Summit and 2022 Sustainability Week activities will give attendees insight into the policies, programs and funding initiatives that have contributed to our success and will help advance energy efficiency and climate resiliency and create a more sustainable future for Pennsylvania.”

In 2019, Governor Wolf signed Executive Order 2019-01 to establish Pennsylvania’s first climate goals, as part of his strategy to fight climate change and protect Pennsylvania from climate dangers. Those goals call for a statewide reduction in net greenhouse has emissions 26 percent by 2025, with a further 80 percent reduction by 2050 from 2005 levels.

That executive order also established the PA GreenGov Council, which develops strategies to help state government reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In the three years since the creation of the GreenGov Council – which is co-chaired by the departments of General Services, Environmental Protection, and Conservation and Natural Resources – commonwealth agencies under the governor’s jurisdiction have reduced energy usage by 12.3 percent for a savings of more than $8 million.

The Sustainability Summit will be a full-day event featuring opening remarks from DCNR Secretary Cindy Dunn and a line-up of six informative and interactive sessions. Throughout the rest of the week, noontime sessions on Tuesday through Friday will focus on specific sustainability topics, and feature opening remarks from PA Department of General Services Acting Secretary Joe Lee, PA Department of Environmental Protection Acting Secretary Ramez Ziadeh and other commonwealth officials.

For more information on PA Sustainability Week or to register for the Sustainability Summit, visit the PA Sustainability Summit website.

WILK CONSERVATIVE HOST UPDATE

None! Because I stopped listening to their garbage. But Nikki Stone was on by accident in my car yesterday. A guy called and said this 2022 election was going to be fair and not stolen. He said 2020 wasn't stolen either. Stone then said, "IIt all started with-Hillary!"  WTF was she talking about? Hilly conceded with class. But as usual, she just blew by reason and common sense.

MEANWHILE IN THE MORNING

Kudos to Nancy and Jason for their interview with Josh Shapiro in the morning. They treated him with respect and dignity, something the Mid Day Mussolini Cordaro wouldn't do. He has regressed to 3rd grade name calling. It is a sad joke.

Two sad endings to the month of September 1975. Singer Jackie Wilson, most famous for his 1967 hit, "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher", collapsed after finishing a concert performance of his 1958 song, "Lonely Teardrops", taking place at Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He would never regain consciousness, remaining in a coma for more than eight years before dying on January 21, 1984….

and Casey Stengel, 85, American baseball outfielder and pennant and World Series manager dies. As an American Major League Baseball right fielder and manager, best known as the manager of the championship New York Yankees of the 1950s and later, the expansion New York Mets. Nicknamed "The Ol' Perfessor", he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966….

In the "Thrilla in Manila", Muhammad Ali retained his world heavyweight boxing championship against former champion Joe Frazier in a boxing match in Manila, the Philippines….The Gilbert and Ellice Islands, a British protectorate in the South Pacific Ocean, were divided in anticipation of independence. The Gilbert Islands would become the nation of Kiribati, while the Ellice Islands would become Tuvalu….The W. T. Grant department store chain, with over 1,000 stores in 42 U.S. states, filed a Chapter 11 action for reorganization in the largest retail store bankruptcy in American history. The last 359 stores went out of business at the end of March 1976 as a result of court-ordered liquidation……Professional wrestler Johnny Valentine (John Wisniski), the reigning NWA champion, was paralyzed, and Ric Flair (Richard Fliehr) sustained a broken back, when the plane in which they were riding ran out of gas and crashed at Wilmington, North Carolina, killing the pilot. Despite being advised to give up the pro wrestling circuit, Flair would return to the ring after months of rehabilitation and an alteration of his style, and would go on to fame and fortune as "The Nature Boy"……and this week in 1975 the number one song in LuLac land and America was “Brazil” by The Richie Family.
