CASEY GETS FIRST CHALLENGER IN HIS '18 SENATE BID

Senator Bon Casey will have an opponent in the 2018 Democratic primary. Here’s his release. Western Pennsylvania news organizations are cordially invited to attend the second of two rallies being held by Patriots for Saccone on March 1st to begin Dr. Rick Saccone’s 2018 campaign to serve Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate.
Dr. Saccone currently serves in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 39th Legislative District (Allegheny and Washington counties). He has a Ph.D. in International Affairs, serves as a college professor and has authored nine books. He has experience in international business and has lived and worked overseas while traveling to 75 countries. Saccone is also a retired officer of the U.S. Air Force.
The first challenger to formally announce his candidacy to unseat Sen. Bob Casey, Saccone has a known reputation as supporting fiscally conservative policies as well as right to life and right to bear arms issues.

ROLLING MILL HILL RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION FORMED IN WILKES BARRE

The Wilkes-Barre Rolling Mill Hill Residents’ Association was formed under the guidance of W-B District B City Councilman Tony Brooks a year ago and the residents have diligently worked together for the betterment of their neighborhoods and toward the overall good for the city. This past year the Association has been active in participating in and/or initiating projects and events for the area residents including programs for the youth as seen on the various occasions below.
--Presenting our police officers with snacks and sweets to show them our support during Appreciation Week
-- Participating in the chicken dinner fundraiser for K9 police officers in conjunction with Crime Watch on Public Square during the summer of 2016
--cleaned and beautified Eyerman and Spruce St. Parks in the Rolling Mill Hill Area in conjunction with Earth Day in April, 2016
--Joined with Dodson School PTO to sponsor Trunk or Treat for the youth of the area at Halloween in October, 2016
--Joined with Dodson School PTO to sponsor Snacks with Santa for Christmas in 2016
--Participated by marching in the Christmas Parade sponsored by Wilkes-Barre City in November 2016
--President Linda Joseph and W-B District B City Councilman, Tony Brooks, and Community Policing Officer, Robert Collins visited businesses on Hazle Street to introduce himself and the Rolling Mill Hill Residents’ Association.

I started watching "Morning Joe" regularly when I was in the hospital recovering from an operation in 2011. I enjoyed the banter and the various views. But the host to me seemed somewhat pompous and arrogant. I let it slide because it was after all his show.
But increasingly Joe Scarborough has become a bully to his guests. Now remember this is the show that gave Donald Trump all the time he ever needed when he first ran for President.
The other day this happened. The “Morning Joe” panel were discussing the issue of liberal politics on college campuses when Joe Scarborough and Donny Deutsch got into an argument. Deutsch became upset with Scarborough’s conduct.
“First of all, don’t treat me like that,” Deutsch said to Scarborough rather pointedly. When Scarborough responded a little too sarcastically, Deutsch continued to express his frustration.
“Are you kidding me, Donny?” Scarborough asked.
The men continued lashing out at each other until Mika Brzezinski urged Deutsch to continue his statement. The discussion centered on Stephen Miller's actions from an article by Andrew Sullivan. Take a look at this and see what a blowhard bully Scarborough could be.

What we had here from Scarborough was a "poor me" recount of his college days.
Scarborough represented the state of Florida and you know how prickly and self important most of those drop in residents can be. I have come to the sad conclusion that the best time to watch "Morning Joe" is without Joe!

REP. CARTWRIGHT INTRODUCES BILL TO IMPROVE THE VA’S MENTAL HEALTH HIRING PROCESS

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright re-introduced the bipartisan Expedited Hiring for VA Trained Psychiatrists Act. This legislation aims to reduce the wait times for veterans seeking mental health care by allowing the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to establish a fast-track process for hiring psychiatrists.
Currently, the VA lacks the resources to support the growing number of veterans seeking help. According to the VA, almost a third of veterans within its heath care system suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In 2014, the VA reported that an average of 20 veterans died from suicide each day. This bill creates a more efficient hiring process for psychiatrists so veterans are able to seek the care they need.
Specifically, the Expedited Hiring for VA Trained Psychiatrists Act would allow the VA to directly hire psychiatrists who have completed residency at a VA facility without regard to civil service or classification laws that often delay the hiring process. Psychiatrists are still required to fulfill all educational requirements and obtain all necessary credentials.
“It is my priority to ensure that veterans have access to the resources they need,” said Rep. Cartwright. “This bill streamlines the hiring process for trained, talented mental health professionals who can assist veterans struggling with PTSD.”

DEMS ELECT NEW PARTY CHAIR

Democrats elected former Labor Secretary Tom Perez as their new national chairman Saturday over a liberal Minnesota congressman, capping a divisive campaign that reflected the depths of the party's electoral failures as well as the energy from resistance to President Donald Trump.
Perez, the first Latino to hold the post, edged Rep. Keith Ellison in the second round of voting by Democratic National Committee members gathered in Atlanta. The new chairman must rebuild a party that in the last decade has lost about 1,000 elected posts from the White House to Congress to the 50 statehouses, a power deficit Democrats have not seen nationally in 90 years. (Chicago Tribune)
Here’s the thing about this development. There was fear that the party would split. Many traditional Democrats have said they might walk if Ellison won the nod given his past ties to Louis Farrakhan. But Ellison has been a very good, eloquent spokesperson for the progressives and backed by Bernie Sanders. The fact that Perez picked him as his deputy immediately was a clear signal that the Democrats are going to rebuild.
Perez’s task will be hard but he will adopt at 50 state strategy much like Howard Dean did after 2004. Plus both wings will not fight each other against the dual enemies of Trump and his REPUBLICAN Congress.
Will this be easy? Uh no but every day Donald Trump stays in office and does his thing, that’s one more day for those who voted for change realize they voted for chaos.
If I heard this once about Trump, I’ve heard it a million times. He’ll shake things up.
But sometimes when you shake things up too much, they break.

TRUMP SAYS NO TO WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS DINNER

President Trump sent a message that he would not be attending the White House Correspondent’s Dinner in March. He sent his well wishes but the bully in the White House won’t attend lest he get his little itty bitty feelings hurt.

DARRELL ISSA TELLS BILL MAHER HE’S OPEN TO A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR TO LOOK INTO PRESIDENT TRUMP’S TIES TO RUSSIA

California Congressman Darrell Issa who has been a supporter of Donald Trump said something pretty interesting on “Real Time’s” Bill Maher program Friday night.
This was in regard to the President’s ties to Russia.
“We need an independent prosecutor,” Maher said, responding to the California Republican’s call for “the intelligence committees of the House and Senate to investigate within the special areas they can see.” Maher continued: “And Jeff Sessions should recuse himself, the same way Loretta Lynch recused herself, because he was part of the Trump campaign.”
Issa agreed with Maher’s call for a special prosecutor. “There may or may not be fault,” Issa said, “We need to investigate their [Russia’s] activities, because they are bad people.”
Unless Issa backpedals, (and why should he?) this is huge news. Issa won his last race by 7 points and has begun to put some daylight between his career and that of the man he supported for the highest office in the land.
Smart move.

THE LINCOLN DAY BREAKFAST THAT NEVER WAS

There is still no word why the Luzerne County Republican party cancelled its Lincoln Day Breakfast this year. After riding a huge Trump win as well as helping pull Pat Toomey into another term, you’d think the party would be more visible. The event was set for The Woodlands this morning but was called off.
Vice Chair Lynette Villano told me to contact the party Chair Ron Ferrance. Tried messaging him on FB. No answer yet.
Just wonder if the local GOP has decided to either not make the most of a political opportunity or just might be afraid of some people maybe calling them out publicly for who they put in the White House. Congressman Lou Barletta was always a mainstay at these meetings so that has everyone guessing. 
The main speaker was supposed to be State Senator Scott Wagner from York who is running for the GOP nomination for Governor in 2018.

ACRI’S KICKOFF PARTY AT AMERICAN LEGION A BIG SUCCESS

Attorney Stacey Acri, candidate for Magisterial District Judge for District 11-03-06 in the Mountain Top area, hosted her campaign kickoff event on February 15th at the American Legion Post 781. Residents from Mountain Top and surrounding communities were greeted by catered fare while they signed petitions, picked up campaign signs, or offered financial support, and children of all ages enjoyed face painting and balloon animals, as well as a mural for them to color.
Her mother, attorney Jane Acri, introduced the candidate to the crowd, showcasing Stacey’s roots here as a childhood resident of Walden Park and graduate of Crestwood High School. After graduating from King’s College, Stacey then attended Penn State Dickinson School of Law. Both work at Acri Law Offices in Wilkes-Barre, where they practice family law and estate planning.
In her prepared remarks, Stacey Acri recognized all the veterans in attendance, whom she commended for their years of service to the nation. Her speech focused on her legal career, which started in the Navy where she served as a Judge Advocate General nearly 20 years ago. “The Navy gave me a broad base of experience,” she said, noting she did everything from criminal and civil litigation to rules of engagement procedures for combat Marines immediately following 9-11, the latter role earning her the nickname “Battle JAG.” She finished her active duty service as the sole legal adviser to the commander of Naval Base San Diego. “This balanced approach to the law prepared me for a new career of public service as your next Magisterial District Judge.” For her service she earned both the Navy Commendation and Navy Achievement Medals, as well as the Navy Volunteer Service Medal for her work with local soup kitchens, civic groups, and Habitat for Humanity while stationed in Washington and California.
Acri also cited her local community involvement which has centered around her three school-aged children, from scouts and PTA to sports and marching band. She has spent the last three years teaching Sunday School as a member of St. Jude’s Parish, while volunteering with her children at the church’s annual International Fest. Currently she serves as Auditor for Wright Township. Her plans as a full-time judge include working with schools and civic groups to raise awareness about issues such as drug addiction and domestic violence which threaten the safety and security of an otherwise peaceful community. “My goal is to bring a proactive, fresh approach to the bench, and hopefully prevent problems before they get to the courtroom,” she concluded.

How about Congressman Little Louie Gohmert using the whining excuse that the House Sergeant of Arms warned Congressmen not to have town meetings because Congressmen and women would be in danger!! Gohmert cited the assassination attempt on Congresswoman Gabby Giffords a few years ago.
Wow. The Republican party used to be a party of real men, not wussies.
And to hide behind Gabby Giffords who was shot at a town meeting is the height of hypocrisy.
These are the Republicans who send 1% of your kids to war.
These are the Republicans who vote again gay marriage and transgender protections but are silent about their family member who just happen to be that persuasion.But if they do come out, then they back off.
These are the same REPUBLICANS who block immigration reform and want to throw out all illegals except for the ones raising their children, mowing their lawns, and cleaning their houses.
This guy plays the Gabby Giffords card essentially insulting his constituents and acting like, well a little wussy.
Here's what Gifford said,
"As a member of Congress, I believed that listening to my constituents was the most basic and core tenet of the job I was hired to do. So I was a little surprised yesterday to hear Congressman Louie Gohmert invoke my shooting as a reason not to face his constituents at a public town hall.
I was shot on a Saturday morning. By Monday morning my offices were open to the public. Ron Barber – at my side that Saturday, who was shot multiple times, then elected to Congress in my stead – held town halls. It’s what the people deserve in a representative.
So to Congressman Gohmert and others who are abandoning their civic obligations, I say this: Have a little courage. Face your constituents. Hold town halls."
The Congresswoman said "hold town halls."
I say to the REPUBLICAN Congressmen like Little Louie,  "GROW SOME BALLS".

THE LATEST REPUBLICAN LIE

I just love how the REPUBLICAN PARTY of President Trump is saying that all the people showing up at town meetings are paid protesters. Even my good friend L.A. Tarone got into the act and said that the protesters were paid by Moveon.org and other Liberal groups. The bottom line is that there have never been crowds like this before. People are pissed and no matter what they say, these are real people who see the writing on the wall. Tarone cited a Craigslist ad. Yeah, they're credible all right.
L.A. had a loudmouth caller named Mike who said NEPA would not tolerate out of towners coming to our area and damaging property here. Hasn’t happened anywhere yet but Mike assured us that people like him will stand with law enforcement officers to help.
I’m sure the local constabulary will be relieved.  I am not saying L.A. Tarone is lying, all I'm saying is he is repeating the latest GOP line about protestors coming out. Do you think these people were paid? 
Here's what real people with real lives need to do to get to one of these. Most work, have kids in schools and must take care of business before they go to an event. It is work. You can't believe that all of the protestors are getting a check. The Republican defaults now are the protestors are paid and the old stand by, Benghazi is still kicking. This IS NOT a paid protestor talking about her dying husband. Yesterday!

Tarone also said that if he thinks GOP officials should NOT have town meetings given this climate against the REPUBLICANS of Trump.
He might be able to defend Congressman Barletta, Casino Marino and Pat “Cowardly Lion” Toomey not showing up because they can’t stand the heat or will get their little itty bitty feelings.
I can’t.
I won’t.

TRUMP REVERSES TRANS GENDER STANCE

AOL News reports that the REPUBLICAN Trump administration overturned Wednesday night Obama-era guidance that allowed transgender students to use public bathrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identity.
Letters sent by the Justice and Education department to schools claimed that the directive caused confusion and lawsuits over its enforcement. Anti-bullying safeguards will not be affected, according to the letter.
The Justice Department headed by Attorney General Jeffrey Sessions spearheaded the reversal. Last April, Trump weighed in on the North Carolina "bathroom law" -- HB2 -- that banned people from using public bathrooms or locker rooms that don't match the sex on their birth certificate.
State lawmakers should “leave it the way it is,” Trump said in an interview with NBC, adding that people should "use the bathroom they feel is appropriate."
"The president's made it clear throughout the campaign that he's a firm believer in states' rights and certain issues like this are not best dealt with at the federal level," Spicer said.
It is evident Trump is desperately trying to hold on to his ignorant, intolerant base.

REP. CARTWRIGHT INTRODUCES BILL TO ADDRESS EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS WITH SENSORY DISABILITIES

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (D-PA) and Representative David McKinley (R-WV) re-introduced the Alice Cogswell and Anne Sullivan Macy Act. This bipartisan bill would improve educational services for students with sensory disabilities.
Named after two pioneers in sensory disability education, the Cogswell-Macy Act would amend the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to require states to identify, evaluate, and provide special education and related services to students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind, regardless of whether they are categorized under a different disability.
Passed in 1975, IDEA requires schools to serve the educational needs of students with disabilities. Although the best available data reports that upwards of 350,000 students are deaf or hard of hearing and 100,000 students have vision loss, less than one third of those populations are reported under IDEA. The Cogswell-Macy Act strengthens IDEA provisions to better meet the educational needs of students with sensory disabilities.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to succeed in school and achieve his or her potential,” said Rep. Cartwright. “Students with sensory disabilities require specialized services to meet their unique, diverse needs, services which are often not available in today’s schools. I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass this crucial bill.”
The Cogswell-Macy Act also assists parents and educators with accessing up-to-date policy resources from the Department of Education.
This legislation is endorsed by the American Foundation for the Blind, the National Association of the Deaf, the National Coalition of Deafblindness, the American Council of the Blind, and more than 100 other organizations.
"Our national special education law has been a success at getting kids with disabilities into their neighborhood schools, but what we haven't done yet is to make sure that students with vision loss get the education they deserve once they get in the schoolhouse door," said Mark Richert, Director of Public Policy for the American Foundation for the Blind. "We've waited forty years, and we're not waiting another forty to give kids who are blind or visually impaired an education that is worthy of their tremendous potential. That's why the Cogswell-Macy Act is imperative."
“Deaf and hard of hearing children need better access to a quality education, and this Act provides a significant improvement towards the goal of a fully accessible quality education based on the communication needs of each deaf and hard of hearing student,” said Howard A. Rosenblum, Esq., CEO of the National Association of the Deaf.
"When implemented, the Alice Cogswell and Anne Sullivan Macy Act will focus each deaf or hard of hearing child’s education program on that child’s unique language and communication needs, as intended by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act,” said Sandra Edwards, President of the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD) and Superintendent of the Mississippi School for the Deaf.
"The Cogswell-Macy Act brings much-needed reform to our schools we have not seen in decades. It empowers students who are deafblind to succeed in the 21st century American classroom,” said Mussie Gebre from DeafBlind Citizens in Action. “By providing them with essential support services such as interveners and qualified teachers to meet their unique needs, America ensures that they are able to communicate and learn effectively in order to achieve in school and lead independent and productive lives.”

Congressman Lou Barletta was there.

REPUBLICAN President Donald Trump's recent demeanor and actions have caused many to wonder about his well being and mental state of mind. I found a interesting letter to the Editor from a Feb. 13th edition of The New York Times. Here's that letter and the link at the bottom of the page.
To the Editor:
Charles M. Blow (column, nytimes.com, Feb. 9) describes Donald Trump’s constant need “to grind the opposition underfoot.” As mental health professionals, we share Mr. Blow’s concern.
Silence from the country’s mental health organizations has been due to a self-imposed dictum about evaluating public figures (the American Psychiatric Association’s 1973 Goldwater Rule). But this silence has resulted in a failure to lend our expertise to worried journalists and members of Congress at this critical time. We fear that too much is at stake to be silent any longer.
Mr. Trump’s speech and actions demonstrate an inability to tolerate views different from his own, leading to rage reactions. His words and behavior suggest a profound inability to empathize. Individuals with these traits distort reality to suit their psychological state, attacking facts and those who convey them (journalists, scientists).
In a powerful leader, these attacks are likely to increase, as his personal myth of greatness appears to be confirmed. We believe that the grave emotional instability indicated by Mr. Trump’s speech and actions makes him incapable of serving safely as president.

LUZERNE COUNTY COUNCIL UP

There are  a dozen Luzerne County residents who  have confirmed they are running for county council in the May 16 primary, including two incumbents. Republicans Kathy Dobash and Harry Haas, Democrats Linda McClosky Houck and Eileen Sorokas and Independent Rick Williams are up this year. To date Dobash is undecided, and Sorokas said she will not run. Sorokas if you recall made national news supporting Donald Trump for President. That pissed off a lot of Democrats who went to the wall for her in every election.Plus she was a State Democratic Committee Woman for years.
Since Williams is an Independent, he’ll make up his mind after the primary. Incumbents Harry Haas a Republican and Linda McClosky Houck a Democrat will run again. Both are great, solid involved public servants.
At least six other Democrats said they are running: The Times Leader reported that the following have expressed interest.
• Wendy Cominsky, of Dallas Township, owner of Au Salon in Dallas and previously owner of Country Scissors from 1995 to 2002.
My friend Gort 42 is going out on a limb for her and I trust his judgment on these things.
• John Gadomski, of Wyoming, a union contractor for more than 44 years who is active with the Keystone Mountain Lakes Regional Council of Carpenters, Local 645, of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
He ran the last time, made a good showing but really never set the world on fire even with the endorsement of the Democratic party.
• Philip Gianfarcaro, of Pittston, owner and operator of Phil’s Clip Joint in Pittston, prior owner of Bottom Of The Ninth Sports Cards in Duryea and a city Democratic committee member for 12 years, currently serving as city party chair.
This guy, is he kidding us? This guy hounded Judicial candidates for jobs for his kids. He finally landed his son at a job but in my opinion all I have seen from this guy is that he wants power to help himself. Not impressed.
• David Popiak, of Hazleton, owner and operator of Hydrodynamics in Hazle Township for 22 years and city Democratic chairman.
Private business guy, Democratic insider but can be a very good representative for The Mountain City.
• Sheila Saidman, of Kingston, a retired lawyer who has worked as a county assistant district attorney, as legal counsel for various corporate entities, in private law practice and as a labor representative for the Pennsylvania State Education Association.
A good choice because the County needs help with someone knowledgeable in Labor negotiations.
• Matthew Vough, of Pittston, who works as marketing manager at Keystone Automotive Operations Inc. in Exeter.
Son of Judge Mike Vough. Not sure why he wants to do this. Matt has a nice Facebook page but there are no specifics on it as of today regarding why he wants to run. But I’m sure he’ll get to it. In terms of the pick between this young man and Gianfricaro there is really no contest.
Four Republicans have said they will run to date:
• Mark Dixon, of Wright Township, director of business development for Kodak Alaris in the Americas for 13 years.
Top notch sable rattler and articulate in his beliefs and issues.
• Chris Perry, of Fairview Township, a former Hazleton Area School District athletic director and teacher for 36 years.
Uh no. Might be qualified, we don’t need a double dipper in this position.
• Stephen J. Urban, of Wilkes-Barre, an IT support coordinator with a major food distributor who previously served on county council for four years.
Served well and with distinction. Deserves another turn at it.
• Gregory S. Wolovich Jr., of Newport Township, who has worked in customer service at Wegmans for eight years and at the Wegmans Warehouse for more than a year.
This guy is a breath of fresh air, knows his stuff and would be a someone who actually wants to serve. Plus he actually works for a living in a job dealing with products as well as accountability.
Wilkes-Barre resident Eric Bieski, a social worker for Catholic Social Services, also said he plans to enter the race after the primary as an Independent.
Bieski would bring some experience to social problems the County has to deal with if elected.

I never really had much use for Human Resource people. To me most of them are glorified Meet and Greeters but in County Government we have politicians to do that. The County Commissioners headed by Pat “Cheese” “Cam” O’Malley picked this young man without looking elsewhere. That seems to be a pattern developing in The Lac .
Now Laureen Cummings who rightly complained about the Joe Corcoran Triple dip job plum at $70,000 was pretty good with this selection. So I’m thinking this guy had some in with one of the members of The Political Class in The Lac.
Welcome to The Political Class young man and forget about that Masters you’re working on. Just show up at the events, buy some tickets to their events and tell them how smart they all are.
Then make sure you attach yourself to Andy Wallace’s ass to find out how you can get another job if power shifts or one when you retire to “double dip” in The Lac.

Justin MacGregor, 34, of Dunmore has been appointed by the Lackawanna County Commissioners as the new Deputy Director for Human Resources. He assumed his duties on February 13.
“We are very pleased to add Justin to our staff. His administrative experience will serve him well in working with our legal team, staff and union representatives in providing our workforce with the resources they need to do their jobs and, above all, serve the public,” the Commissioners explained in a joint statement.
Mr. MacGregor will be responsible for the overall administration of the County’s human resources/personnel operation. He will work with staff, consultants and solicitors in overseeing labor relations with the County’s seven unions.
In his professional career, Justin worked for the Scranton School District as its Community Relations Director, where he was responsible for the District’s overall public relations efforts.
Prior to the District post, he worked as a Legislative Assistant for former State Representative Kevin Murphy.
Mr. MacGregor earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government, Law and National Security from Misericordia in 2013. He is a candidate for a Master of Public Administration degree from Marywood University, which he expects to receive in the Fall of this year. He is currently in the process of preparing for his Master’s capstone.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity afforded to me to serve Lackawanna County in this role,” said Justin. “My experience and education have prepared me for this, and I look forward to working with the Commissioners and staff.”
Active in the community, Mr. MacGregor is a Board Member of the Scranton Half Marathon and the United Neighborhood Centers of NEPA. He is also an Auxiliary Board Member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of NEPA and an Allocation/Impact Committee member of the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties.
His salary has been set at $53,000 by the Board of Commissioners.

CARTWRIGHT AND CASEY SPEAK AT ANTI REPEAL RALLY

There were 200 people on Courthouse Square on Sunday at high noon on this beautiful summer like day. The peaceful, unpaid protest focused in on the Republican party's long lasting desire to repeal the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. The Republican plan to replace it would leave tens of thousands without health insurance. 
There is talk that the new Health and Human Services Secretary, Tom Price would set up a voucher program as well as privatize Medicare.
Our two area representatives US Senator Bob Casey and Congressman Matt Cartwright promised they'll fight any plan to repeal Obamacare.
Senator Casey said, “It’s a matter of basic justice. If you don’t have healthcare you can’t live a full life, and sometimes you lose your life because you don’t have the protections of healthcare. So this isn’t some theoretical debate, this is a matter of basic justice. And we’re going to make sure we fight anyone in our way who tries to destroy the Medicaid program and rip away the protections of the ACA.” (Fox 56)
The big thing here is that 200 people converged on the Square to make certain people understand what the repeal of the Affordable Care Act would impact. There was a great dign that read, "You can't be Pro Life and against the ACA". 
Yep the GOP wants to tell people how to run their bodies, deny women preventative natal care for the babies they so fervently want to protect but then fight against this program. 
By the way, Congressman Lou Barletta, Tom Marino and Senator Pat Toomey are pretty much in hiding this weekend.

U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright will speak at the Action Together Northeastern PA Health Care Rally in Scranton on Sunday, February 19, 2017. The rally focuses on protecting and maintaining the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Medicare, and Medicaid. Rep. Cartwright will be joined by local constituents who will speak about the benefits they have received under the ACA.

The REPUBLICAN Bi Polar President Thursday again brought up Hillary Clinton while he was making a statement about his National Security Adviser. Trump railed against “criminal” leaks by the intelligence services on Wednesday as he attempted to shift the focus away from his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who resigned after making misleading statements about conversations with the Russian ambassador, and the scandal over Russian influence enveloping the White House.
“From intelligence, papers are being leaked, things are being leaked,” Trump said. “It’s criminal action, criminal act, and it’s been going on for a long time, before me, but now it’s really going on, and people are trying to cover up for a terrible loss that the Democrats had under Hillary Clinton. First off, it wasn’t a terrible loss. It was a terrible campaign but she won 3 million votes more than Trump. But she lost. It’s in the past. This thing about Russia has nothing to do with Hillary or the election.
All of these actions took place after the election when Hillary was GONE.
What type of leaks have been going on before him? Can he name one from the Obama administration?
The playbook in this Trump administration is to say THEIR mistakes are related to Hillary Clinton’s loss.
NO!
She lost, you won.
It is your turn to drive the car and if you can’t even deal with a learner’s permit, then get out.

STEPHEN MILLER’S BLUES

The other day a White House official went on national TV and reminded me of Joseph Goebbels. Stephen Miller, an appointee of the REPUBLICAN administration of Donald Trump had a dangerous message. Miller said that The White House would be taking actions on an array of issues facing the country. Reasonable, right?
Well no, this is what he said, “As we begin to take further actions that the powers of the president to protect our country are very substantial and will not be questioned."
Not be questioned? Our country has always been a country of people who ask questions. Our leaders are used to it.
We will not be questioned is an insult to American democracy which is all about questioning.
There the comparison to Goebbels ends because under the German regime, Goebbels was very adept at using the relatively new media of radio and film for propaganda purposes. Mr. Miller was not.
Take a look at this video and you’ll see him reading from cue cards and frankly being scary.

GOP LINCOLN DAY DINNER 
CANCELLED

So the Luzerne Count y GOP cancelled their annual Lincoln Day breakfast this year. It was set for February 26th. Usually the breakfast attracts a hundred or so members of the party faithful. Last year in 3 degree weather the place was packed.
This February though the breakfast was cancelled. Reasons I heard were the tickets weren’t printed in time and others had commitments.
As a political analyst I said on TV that the Luzerne County GOP should take advantage of their big win with the election of Donald Trump. If the party put half the time and resources into local races like they did for Trump, they’d be going gangbusters for a complete change on the local level.
What better launching pad than the Lincoln Day Breakfast? Right?
Well, could it be that just maybe the local Republicans might be afraid of a protest at their meeting?
Naw can’t be, someone just forgot to order the tickets. Sure.

CANDIDATE FOR LUZERNE COUNTY COUNCIL, GREGORY S. WOLOVICH, JR., TO HOLD PRIMARY ELECTION KICK-OFF RALLY, ANNOUNCE REFORM AGENDA

Gregory S. Wolovich, candidate for Luzerne County Council, will hold his Primary Election kick-off Rally where he will explain his outline for reform agenda to protect taxpayers and change Luzerne County.
Born in Kingston, spent my entire life in Luzerne County (primarily Wilkes-Barre). Graduated from G.A.R. Memorial. Graduated from King's College (Accounting Degree, C.I.S. Minor). Worked Wegmans Customer Service for 8 years, Wegmans Warehouse for 1.5 years.
Greg stated, “I have recently decided that the County of Luzerne needs a dedicated, hardworking representative at our courthouse working for the needs of all its residents. I have officially decided to run for the office of Luzerne County Council. My goal is to make sure all county matters are available and fully disclosed to the general public. Also, it is crucial that residents reach out to their County leaders to express their concerns for their individual communities.”
Furthermore, Greg wants to fully utilize my Accounting degree to study the County Budget and monitor cashflow to find alternative ways to cut wasteful spending. By saving wasted funds, we can take the burden off of the taxpayers to fund critical projects. However, the only true way to move forward is to get out and have your voices heard. If we unite together, we can truly make a difference.
GREG graduated with an Accounting Degree from King's College and work for Wegmans in the private sector. Greg worked in multiple production environments there, monitoring inventory and sales numbers using company software programs. This involves great precision and accuracy, or the needs of the customers can not properly be met. Greg stated, “with my experience in these areas, I really want to work on having at least a week to week update on where County funds are going and making sure they reach their proper destinations. I've also been attending public meetings and listening to the concerns of the people. DOUBLE DIPPING SWITCH UP IN KINGSTON

AND WE AIN'T TALKING DAIRY QUEEN

This past Sunday we wrote about double dipping in Lackawanna County but the practice still goes on in Luzerne County. Take for instance the goings on in the borough of Kingston. Again you have to wonder when “enough is enough” for career politicos feeding at the taxpayer trough.
Mayor Jim Haggerty who has had a distinguished career decides he’s going to run for Magistrate. Long time DJ Paul Roberts announced his retirement. So I thought okay, Haggerty ran for Judge and why not enter the race against Assistant DA Mamie Phillips. It would be a battle between two influential political families. Fun to watch.
But then Paul Roberts decides he should run for Mayor of Kingston to replace Haggerty as Mayor. So why retire if you aren’t going to retire? I’ll tell you why.
Unlike your average Joe who has to abide by a time clock as well as answering to people every day, The Political Class answers every four or 6 years. In these smaller municipalities who the hell wouldn’t want a job like that? Hell Andy and Barney put more hours in then some of these guys.
I think again this is the example of two men who have been longtime members of The Political Class not making way for younger or even more qualified people. That juicy apple needs one more bite out of it for these two.
Political office should not be a version of “Wife Switch” but rather intentions to be innovative and serve the people. Not serve themselves in the most opportunistic fashion. Kingston and West Side taxpayers may like these guys, hell I like them. But one dip should be enough.

BARLETTA BILL PROTECTS LEGAL WORKERS FROM ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT COMPETITION

CLARIFIES THAT OBAMA EXECUTIVE ACTION DOES NOT GRANT LEGAL EMPLOYMENT STATUS

Congressman Lou Barletta introduced legislation that protects people who are legally authorized to work in the United States by clarifying that illegal immigrants granted amnesty by executive action cannot be issued work permits. The Defense of Legal Workers Act (H.R. 1010) is intended to remedy executive actions taken by former President Barack Obama to shield millions of illegal immigrants and permit them to compete with legal American workers for jobs that are already scarce. Barletta previously introduced the same legislation in November 2014.
“When President Obama granted amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, he improperly created more competition for legal American workers who are already finding it difficult to find work,” Barletta said. “American citizens, or people who have come to the United States legally, should not have to suffer from others butting in line after they have broken the law to enter this country.”
The legislation is necessary in the wake of two Obama programs: an expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA). Under DACA, legal presence was granted to illegal immigrants claiming to have been present in the United States since before they turned 16, and who claimed continuous residency since 2010, among other criteria. Under DAPA, legal presence was granted to people who had lived in the country since 2010 and were parents of citizens or legal residents. In June 2016, The United States Supreme Court split 4-to-4 in a case involving the Obama executive actions, leaving in place a lower court ruling that blocked the programs. The resulting legal limbo means that legislative action is the best means of settling the issue.
“This legislation makes it crystal clear: only those lawfully present can lawfully work,” Barletta said. “This legislation is only necessary because Congress never conceived that an administration would engage in the level of executive overreach exhibited by the Obama Administration.”
The Defense of Legal Workers Act amends current law to clearly state that illegal immigrants granted amnesty by executive action are not authorized to work in the United States. It leaves in place current processes by which people become legally present and authorized to work.
“I am hopeful that President Trump will act to overturn DACA and DAPA in defense of legal American workers,” Barletta continued. “Until then, this legislation clearly states that it is the policy of the United States to favor legal residents over those who have broken the law to come here.”
