UNTESTED AND UNCONTROLLED?

 I am sick and tired of the national media talking heads saying Vice President Harris has to PROVE herself in an  “untested and uncontrolled” environment.  Really? I don’t think ANY nominee is the past has had that line used against them.

Look.

Harris made her living in the public eye and has answered questions before.

She’s an Attorney. That’s WHAT THEY DO. (except for those one or two who no one has ever heard of).

Do you think this is a gender issue? Ever had a male attorney who ran for President being asked this question?

This is not my generation’s national media. They are owned by huge corporation and billionaires who stand to lose out on those tax cuts if Trump is returned to office.

It all about sexism and money. There’s a reason why a reporter (in my day) Tom Petit ) stayed at NBC for years vs. Yamiche Alcindor has had three jobs in about 4 years.

I’m old enough to see that the national media has become more breathless in the use of the term “breaking news”.

My view from a liberal who also believes in  in the death penalty and also for putting the homeless on the street (properly vetted) with a job to beatify communities. 

 

 

HARRIS LEADS IN NEW POLL IN BATTLE GROUND STATES

Vice President Kamala Harris beats former President Donald Trump in three surveys taken after the Democratic National Convention, adding to her winning polling streak, though the size of her lead remains unchanged since before the convention.

Harris led Trump by two points—47%-45%—in the latest Economist/YouGov poll taken Sunday through Tuesday, which allowed registered voters to pick independents Jill Stein and Cornell West, roughly similar to Harris’ three-point advantage about a week earlier and her two-point lead two weeks ago (the most recent poll had 1,367 respondents, margin of error 3.2).

Harris is up by one point, 47% to 46% with 4% undecided and 2% who wouldn’t vote, in an Aug. 22-26 Yahoo News/YouGov online survey of around 1,200 registered voters (margin of error 3)—virtually unchanged from the 46%-46% tie between Harris and Trump in a survey by the same pollsters conducted after the Republican National Convention, but before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

Harris leads Trump by a larger margin—48% to 44%—in an Aug. 23-25 Morning Consult survey of registered voters, findings that mirror the group’s Aug. 16-18 survey taken before the Democratic National Convention, which concluded Thursday in Chicago.

The surveys are the latest to show a shift in Democrats’ favor since Harris’ entrance into the race last month.

Harris led Trump 49% to 45% among registered voters and 51% to 45% among likely voters in a poll by Ipsos, ABC News and The Washington Post released Aug. 18.

In a CBS and YouGov poll, also released Aug. 18, Harris had a three-point edge over Trump among likely voters (51% to 48%), though the candidates were tied at 50% in battleground states.

Harris leads 50% to 46% in an Emerson College poll of 1,000 likely voters released Aug. 15.

Just one major poll in recent weeks, taken by Fox News and released Aug. 15, found Trump leading, 50% to 49% among registered voters.  (UPI, LuLac)

 

 

WHAT’S IN TRUMP’S NEW INDICTMENT

The facts and the evidence of Smith’s case haven’t changed. The indictment still charges Trump with conspiracies to defraud the government system that counts election votes and to corrupt and obstruct the process of certifying Joe Biden’s victory. It also accuses him of hatching a conspiracy against the bedrock right of citizens to cast a vote and have it counted.

But in deference to the Supreme Court ruling, Smith removed language that alleges that Trump used the Justice Department to promote his claims of electoral fraud. And he attempted to style much of the remaining alleged conduct as that of a “candidate” rather than a president acting in his official capacity, to get around the issue at the center of the court’s ruling.

CASEY CELEBRATES PROGRESS TO LOWER COSTS, CREATE JOBS, INVEST IN MANUFACTURING, CLEAN ENERGY

ON ANNIVERSARY OF LAW TO LOWER ENERGY AND HEALTH CARE COSTS FOR AMERICANS, SENATOR CASEY TOUTS NEW JOBS; ENERGY INVESTMENT; REDUCED HEALTH CARE AND PRESCRIPTION DRUG COSTS FOR FAMILIES AND SENIORS, INCLUDING A $35 A MONTH CAP ON INSULIN FOR SENIORS

U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement on the second anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, landmark legislation to lower health care and energy costs for families and boost clean energy production. 

“This game changing law invests in the Commonwealth, lowering costs for Pennsylvania families. From health care to electricity bills, Pennsylvanians are spending less on their everyday needs,” said Senator Casey. “I fought for this law to keep hard-earned dollars in Pennsylvanians’ pocket, and I will keep fighting to bring costs down.”

Senator Casey has traveled around the Commonwealth delivering critical investments to Pennsylvania, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). He has visited companies and regions that are poised to benefit from lower costs, tax credits and investments. Senator Casey also continues to push the Administration to ensure that Pennsylvania can take advantage of additional grants, tax credits, and other opportunities.

Senator Casey has long worked to lower health care costs. As Chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, Casey fought to give Medicare the power to negotiate prescription drug prices. Just yesterday, Medicare successfully negotiated to lower costs for ten additional drugs.  Casey’s Lowering Medicare Premiums and Prescription Drug Costs Act, included in the IRA, expanded cost sharing assistance for low-income people with Medicare, capped annual out-of pocket-costs, and lowered the price of insulin to $35 a month. Additionally, thanks to Casey’s advocacy, seniors qualify to receive critical vaccines for free.

Casey has worked tirelessly to ensure that the Commonwealth can continue to be a leader in manufacturing, while also protecting the environment. He fought to include provisions in the clean energy law to boost domestic manufacturing, by providing a bonus tax credit for companies that use American steel, iron, and manufactured goods. Additionally, Casey created a tax credit program to incentivize investment in energy communities—communities whose economies have historically been dependent on the fossil fuel industry. The Treasury Department’s announcement and information on qualifying for the bonus credit can be found here. Casey also delivered millions of dollars from the Domestic Manufacturing Conversion (DMC) grant program to Volvo Mack Trucks and Harley Davidson LiveWire to produce zero-emissions vehicles in Pennsylvania and create hundreds of union manufacturing jobs. Further, Senator Casey delivered $396,108,225 to Pennsylvania to support industrial decarbonization projects, which will create jobs, benefit historically disadvantaged communities, and ensure that the Commonwealth continues to create in-demand goods for the American and global markets. Cleveland-Cliffs in Butler County received $75,000,000 to reduce carbon emissions and increase production of electrical steel. Milton Steel company also received funding to support their steel production business using solar energy. Their steel is used in bridges in the Commonwealth and around the world, including in Ukraine to replace bridges damaged by the Russians.

Through the Neighborhood Access and Equity (NAE) Program, Senator Casey has fought to ensure that communities are safe and accessible. Senator Casey secured $2,500,000 in federal funding to design safety improvements along Route 291 and connect to the City of Chester to the Port of Chester waterfront. The NAE program also helped initiatives to make communities safer and more connected to their surroundings, supporting safety improvements at Ira Reynolds Park in Susquehanna depot and capping the Vine Street Expressway to reconnect Philadelphia’s Chinatown.

The law has also helped Pennsylvania to meet demand for electricity by supporting solar farms across the Commonwealth. Companies including Goonies Solar in Lycoming County and AES Distributed Energy in Fulton and Frankin Counties, developed solar farms that have generated hundreds of megawatts of solar power, enough to power thousands of Pennsylvania homes. This new source of clean energy will ultimately help reduce electricity costs for families.

Thanks to Senator Casey’s advocacy, the IRS Direct File program will be implemented in the Commonwealth, saving Pennsylvanians up to $630 million in combined annual tax filing fees and additional tax credits claimed directly from the IRS. 

 

SHAPIRO ADMINISTRATION TO KICK OFF STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS TO IMPROVE MATERNAL HEALTH CARE AND ADDRESS MATERNAL MORTALITY

The Shapiro Administration and community partners in maternal health will participate in a roundtable discussion to kick off the development of the Commonwealth's maternal health strategic plan. This conversation is the first step in the planning process to help shape the forthcoming maternal health strategic plan, which will outline steps to address high rates of maternal mortality, especially among Black women, and barriers to pregnant women in Pennsylvania getting the prenatal and postpartum care they need to live healthy lives.

The meeting will convene subject matter experts and leadership from the Shapiro Administration's health agencies including Department of Human Services (DHS) Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen, Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) Deputy Secretary Kelly Primus, and Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID) Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys to voice the unique maternal health needs of the populations they serve and develop collaborative, actionable strategies for the plan.

TRUMP RE-INDICTED

Donald Trump Has been saying the Justice Department under the Democrats weaponized itself against him. He has been saying it so  long was an un-truth, the Jack Smith team decided to make it so.

In response to a Supreme Court ruling granting broad immunity to presidents for official acts, special counsel Jack Smith on Tuesday filed a new federal indictment against former President Donald Trump in the Jan. 6 case involving riots at the U.S. Capitol more than three years ago.

The filing, which accuses Trump of leading a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election, comes just 10 days before the Justice Department's "60-day rule" would have taken effect and banned the filing of new charges against the Republican nominee for president.

In Tuesday's new 36-page indictment, which has been reduced from the original 45 pages, Smith removed allegations that the Supreme Court determined were wrongly filed.

Trump is no longer charged with trying to force election fraud investigations on the Justice Department or urging state lawmakers to choose fraudulent electors. Those interactions are immune from prosecution because they are considered official presidential acts.

Trump will undoubtedly cry. This goes out to him.

 

 

ACTION IN LULAC LAND

The campaign season is underway here in this region and Luzerne and Lackawanna County will be taking center stage. On Monday Senator Chris Cooons of Delaware stopped in Scranton and Dunmore to advocate for Vice President Harris and Governor Walz. Cooms is best friends with President Bien and intimated that he was lobbying for a visit to the Scranton area from the current President, Mr. Biden and his would be successor.

Meantime in The Lu, Malcolm Kenyatta stopped by Luzerne County headquarters on Monday to have coffee with a full house of volunteers. Kenyatta is running for State Auditor General against incumbent Tim Floor.

Kenyatta was the keynote speaker at the Wilkes-Barre NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner in 2019 and rocked the house.

This is just one of many campaign stops by political luminaries coming our way.

 

THIS WEEK IN MAGA LAND

This story was making the buzz because it came from The Guardian. I was made aware of this because of the involvement of convicted felon Frank Scavo. Scavo an ardent supporter of Mr. Trump rally laid it on the line regarding how he sees the election. It was a candid take on both parties that represent uzerne County.

We rerun it for you to see the cracks in MAGA land that are starting to show not only locally and statewide bt on a national and internation level.

Frank Scavo of Old Forge was recently quoted in both The Guardian and Raw Story expressing concern that Donald Trump’s speeches are becoming increasingly erratic and troublesome. The choice of the word "starting" might be up for debate, considering Scavo's history of blind faith support for Trump.

Frank Scavo is well-known for his controversial past, which includes being removed from the Old Forge School Board for making racist comments on social media, multiple unsuccessful runs for political office, and organizing four busloads of people for the January 6th trip to the Capitol. Although Scavo initially lied to the media that he left the Capitol when trouble started, photos later surfaced showing him inside the building during the insurrection attempt. He was subsequently charged, sentenced, and served several months in prison. Adding to the irony, just weeks before January 6th, his wife Caren was arrested for shoplifting several hundred dollars’ worth of wine from Gerrity’s Supermarket.

Currently, Scavo serves as treasurer for the "Luzerne County Republicans" PAC, a far-right group that has clashed with, and has taken over the official Republican Party of Luzerne County. The group's president, TJ Fitzgerald, is a convicted drug felon who, along with Luzerne County Election Board member Alyssa Fusaro, was ejected from the election office for using racial slurs and causing a disturbance. Although the County Office of Law recommended Fusaro's removal from the board, the Republican-majority County Council chose not to pursue the issue.

The Citizens Advisory of Pennsylvania (CAoP), despite being a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, continues to endorse local and national MAGA candidates, contradicting their public claims of neutrality. Among the group's political posters are the  group's president, Benny Herring, who serves on the County Ethics Commission, and vice president, Ed Brunn, who is a member of the Northwest School Board. Enclosed in attachments are just a small sample of their political posts.

This past week, two proposed solar farms in Nanticoke and Lehman were shut down due to opposition from residents, an effort led in part by Citizens Advisory founder Jamie Walsh, with support from the organization.
