The LuLac Edition #662, Dec. 9th, 2008

PHOTO INDEX: JUDGE LOKUTA AND THE COURTHOUSE.

JUDGE OUT

Well the final shoe dropped today in the Ann Lokuta case before the Judicial Review Board. By a vote of 6 to 1, the board stripped the first elected female Judge in Luzerne County of her seat on the Court of Common Pleas. As I wrote earlier in the day, this was not unexpected. Lokuta biggest crime it seems was not playing nice with the puffed up lawyers she faced and various members of the Courthouse staff who apparently have very brittle feelings. Well, I guess all that time on the public dole gives you the sense that everybody has to be nice to you. Now Lokuta did some strange things that I disagreed with like having staff clean her house. That was wrong and she should have been sanctioned for that but expulsion from the bench? This punishment does not fit the crime or percieved crimes. I watched with interest a very busy Andy Mehalshick on WBRE tonight and he interviewed one of the people who testified against the Judge. Said the judge was brilliant, but not very nice. Then the reporter said he talked to many people under the dome who hated Lokuta but they of course declined to come on camera. COWARDS! Lokuta is gone because all of her fellow Judges (two who have some worries ahead of them I've heard) complained about her behavior. The staff on the third floor was angry because the Judge, a working class daughter of coal miner parents didn't think anyone born on third base was entitled to say they hit a triple. So they got even. And they won. Good for them. They brought down a somewhat moody and cantankerous Judge who sometimes was impatient, scolded attorneys for not being prepared and was not one of "them". She came to the Judgeship by winning the votes of those who could relate to the struggles of someone working hard to become a professional. The sons and daughters of working class Luzerne County residents embraced Lokuta because they knew how tough it was for one of "those" to prevail. And never mind the fact that Lokuta was the first female Judge. Let's face it folks, she didn't have the look and didn't care about such things. Lokuta plans to appeal and we wish her luck in that endeavor. But we're not optimistic. The "in crowd" won another over the regular people at the Courthouse. I know you're enjoying your victory but wondering to myself just how the hell you sleep at night!

PETRILLA TRYING

Maryanne Petrilla, another strong female leader in Luzerne County government is trying to get a budget passed. And she is getting some cooperation from county departments who are trying to cut here and there and make the budget next week a reality. She is of course being opposed by the Courts who say they can't possibley give up any money because the system of criminal justice will suffer in the county. That's all they said, nowhere is there an explanation for what that means. Why don't they try this? How about working an extra hour or two to get the job done? Why not combine some positions? Others in similar situations are doing that. The Court system responds to Petrilla's requests with what they do best: we'll sue. Yep, tie up the county court system, calling staff as witnesses in a lawsuit against your coworkers while people are murdered on South Hancock Street in Wilkes Barre and old women's purses are stolen in Kingston. I better stop now because I might be hurting the feelings of the Judiciary in Luzerne County and as Ann Lokuta can attest, that's a dangerous thing to do. In the meantime, kudos to Commissioner Petrilla who is doing an impossible job with equally impossible people.

Dave-
Let us know when you unveil her statue. Poor Annie. Not only were the Luzerne County judges & lawyers against her, but everybody else in the state. Doesn't happen often, but she deserved it. Sort of like the queen in Alice in Wonderland. Went mad with too much power....

David,

I think that Ann has problems that she needs to get fixed. I am not saying she is a terrible person but if those problems keep her of displaying proper judicial temperament at all times, she has to go. I am not going to pick and choose fights with particular judges because they are not perfect. She needs to respect the decision of the Court of Judicial Discipline and live with it. She will never be a judge again. She is not a wounded desperate fawn like people think; she has places to fall back on. People like that young woman deserve our respect because they were willing to GO UNDER OATH and testify to how things were under Judge Lokuta and then speak to the public about it. Unlike others at the Luzerne County Courthouse and in the business, she displayed the fortitude that I wish our jurists had, a willingness to communicate in an open fashion. You know, the same thing you fault public officials for all of the time, choose what you want, Openess/Whistleblowing/Sunshine or Closed Doors/Silence/The Same Old? If Anne Lokuta was high, holy and right as you like to think she would not have changed her closing strategies to Sadaam Hussein like pleading at the end with the peanut gallery of supporters ushered in as her white knights. If you want a statue of her, I recommend cheap stucco bought with the pension money she will never receive because SHE violated the Judicial Canons and the TRUST of the citizens of Luzerne County.

Yonki, Yonki, Yonki:
Me thinks your class warfare is showing. Many of your readers have wondered whether you're a Liberal or Right Winger, or a little of both. Your defense of Lokuta clearly says you are happy to promote class warfare against the haves and have nots. I'm thinking your a Class warfare neo populist. By the way, care to share your relationship with the Judge, or non Judge?

WENT TO KING'S AT THE SAME TIME SHE WAS THERE. WAS IN ONE CLASS WITH HER. SHE WAS THIN AND HAD LONG HAIR AND WAS VERY OPINIONATED. SINCE I AND A FEW OF MY FRIENDS WERE FRESHMEN, WE WERE IGNORED BY HER AND EVERYONE ELSE. IN 1980, SHE ENGAGED ME IN CONVERSATION ON S. FRANKLIN STREET SAYING RAY MUSTO WAS A HORRIBLE CHOICE FOR CONGRESS AND THAT ANY THINKING PERSON SHOULD SUPPORT FRANK HARRISON. SHE DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE THAT THE PARTY HONCHO AT THE TIME, SENATOR MARTIN L. MURRAY WAS WALKING BEHIND US. I CARED, SHE DIDN'T. IN THE NINETIES, I TALKED TO HER ON THE PHONE WHEN I CALLED MY LAWYERS, THE KISAILUS LAW FIRM WHEN SHE PICKED UP THE PHONE BY ACCIDENT. WISHED HER LUCK IN HER NEW JOB AS JUDGE. AS TONY KORNHEISER IS FOND OF SAYING, "THAT'S IT, THAT'S THE LIST".

If anyone deserves a statue, it's Mrs. LuLac!
Enough said.

Statue? Hell. Mrs LuLac deserves a coin!

That woman deserves everything that has happened to her. She's a power hungry and yes optionated (albeit her side only opinion). She's and obnoxious person who thought she could bully anyone because of her robe. Let her be like the rest of her indentured servants now. Thank God, slavery was abolished! I could only imagine what she would have done.
Push little bitch!

Poor, poor Annie. The bully got pushed back and she doesn't like it. This has been coming for a long time. She should have respected her position and acted like it. The punishment is the culmination of a lot of her crimes. I wouldn't fell too sorry for her. If you do, I bet there's a bridge somewhere you can purchase.

Introducing David Yonki, Ann Lokuta's press secretary.

The most amazing thing about Mr. Yonki is that he is defending Ms. Lokuta. He has no stake in her defense. She's not tall, not connected anymore and not well coifed. Boy those men love that long hair don't they? If you ask me, I think the Sloavnic Mr. Yonki has an Eastern European bias. Remember last year's defense of Kathy Bozinski, she of the long legs and flat screen TV in her office? I think Yonki is a Polish bigot and sympathizer. That's it from me.

Poor Annie. Perhaps she'll get the mental help she needs. Me thinks she's bipolar, but what do I know...
I know Annie & her trusty sidekick made life miserable for some folks. I miss your late night ha-ha-ha calls.
Remember girls what goes around came around.
I pray to God to save your souls before you both burn in hell.

Mr. Yonki,

My name is Rebecca Sammon. I am the "young woman" to whom you referred.
First I need to take exception to the previous comment. While I am not a physician or psychologist, I DO agree that Ms. Lokuta has some problems. I do have a problem with damning her to hell. She is a woman with problems, and I think, if she had dealt with her issues, she would not be in the predicament that she is in now.
Second, if you are going to quote me, do it correctly. I said that Ms. Lokuta is smart, but that given her temperament, the court made the right decision. I stand firmly behind that statement. I find it incredibly odd that you sit in judgment of me, but you have never once reached out to me to explain, nor have you read the lengthy testimony I gave. You were not in the courtroom when I testified. The saddest thing in this whole ordeal are the innocent people that she hurt and the good people she slandered in the process.
She was not "targeted" by anyone for cooperating with any investigation. Before I went to work in her office, I had an opinion of her that is very much like yours. Unfortunately, my second summer there, I recognized that it was not the other court officials that were beating up on her, rather, it was quite the opposite. She took every chance she could to treat people unkindly and make things difficult for those who had to work with her and for her.
I had absolutely no stake in the outcome of this trial. I was deposed and testified pursuant to a subpoena, and strangely, given her efforts to discredit me, Ms. Lokuta was the one who gave the Board my name as someone who would have credible evidence. Those who defended her certainly had a vested interest in Ms. Lokuta remaining on the bench. Saying that her actions did not warrant the decision of the Board means two things, 1) you did not read the trial testimony and 2) You are not familiar with the Pennsylvania Constitution or judicial ethics. Before you give the statements you have given, it would have been a good idea for you to familiarize yourself. When Ms. Lokuta was not in her chamber, it was a pleasant place to work, she was absent most of the first summer I worked there. It was only the next summer, when she was there, that I experienced her interactions.

Finally, while I take umbrage with your comments about me because you do not know me, were not in the chamber, and have made no attempt to read my entire testimony, I welcome any contact regarding this matter, and would be happy to answer any questions you may have. I just urge you to be objective.

Best,

Becca

FIRST OFF, YOU ARE CORRECT, I DID NOT READ THE TESTIMONY. MY OPINION WAS BASED ON WHAT THE MEDIA WAS REPORTING, WHAT SOME OF MY LEGAL SOURCES WERE TELLING ME AND A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF HER BEHAVIOR VS. SOME ON THE BENCH NOW. I'LL ADMIT, IT'S NOT A PERFECT WAY OF GIVING AN OPINION BUT I NEVER PORTRAYED IT AS SUCH.
SECOND, YOUR COMMENTS WERE ENLIGHTENING AND VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. THE FACT THAT YOU WERE WILLING TO GET ON CAMERA SPEAKS VOLUMES TO ME IN EXPRESSING YOUR OPINION AS OPPOSED TO THOSE WHO DIDN'T OR REFUSED TO PUT THEIR "NAME" ON THEIR OWN BELIEFS AND OPINIONS IN THIS MATTER.
THIRD, LIKE YOU, I HAVE NO STAKE IN THIS. MY BELIEF IS THAT, DESPITE NOT READING THE TESTIMONY, THE PUNISHMENT DOES NOT FIT THE CRIME. BUT THAT'S WHERE WE DIFFER. I DO APPRECIATE YOU READING, RESPONDING AND CALLING ME ON THE OBVIOUS SHORTCOMINGS OF MY PRESENTATION IN THIS MATTER. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DO SO AGAIN AND PLEASE KEEP ON READING.

It is interesting to see who David Yonki defends. Father Sicca, Pope Benedict the 16th, Louie DeNaples and now Judge Lokuta. Interesting people to defend, don't ya think?

Yes of course bring it on girls!!!

That will be the oppourtunity for the "Real" stories about Annie to come out.

Watch what you wish for...

My suggestion before you decide to run would be 1)get treatment for your BiPolar, 2)make peace with your Higher power 3)lose the vindictiveness 4)make amends with those who you tried to destroy and 5)move to some other state where no one knows you

At 11:02 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

someone really thinks they can push annie around!! can you tell me what medicine is for bipolar??
seems to me you would know!! the only way to make peace with "the higher power" is on the phone through the glass, right???
DESTROY AND CONQUER!!! be careful... EVERYONE HAS SKELETONS IN THEIR CLOSET!!! from what i hear about annie... she isnt one to run.........
