MAYBE I'M AMAZED

Maybe I’m Amazed…..
that the people in Shenandoah actually defended the actions of the young kids who beat and killed an immigrant. Being a football player is no gateway to instant respectability. See O.J. Simpson.
Maybe I’m Amazed…..that the story of the miners in Chile got so much attention. It was good to see a "good news" story prevail. Kudos to WBRE TV’s Monica Madaya for her report on the 1963 Shepton Mine Disaster. That juxtaposition of stories was very good.
Maybe I’m Amazed…..that Ashley Borough has three police officers to cover one mile. Equally amazing is the fact that at recent Council Meetings to address the budget the Council President and Mayor were nowhere to be found.
Maybe I’m Amazed….
that still another great broadcast career is coming to an end. WILK’s Phil Cummings is hanging up the mike later this month. Cummings was long associated with WDAU TV and WGBI AM and FM News. He did newsbreaks on WDAU and always signed off his WGBI FM newscasts every morning with “Have a nice day lady”. To Phil, we say, “have a nice retirement”.
Maybe I'm Amazed.....that an organization will let their top dog go after they do this huge community service event that brought thousands of dollars into their coffers and tons of media awareness regarding their cause. But that's just what the local SPCA did to Vince Sweeney.

Granted, it is a shame Vince Sweeney lost his job with the SPCA, but come on, $76,225 BASE salary? For an organization that is going broke in these hard economic times, I see no alternative. It's happening all over. That position and salary were a sore spot ever since it's inception. Sweeney is an icon in the media in this area. I'm sure he'll be back on the bandwagon again soon. You couldn't find a more personable or nicer person anywhere. Best of luck to him. I hope he graces our screens and speakers again real soon.

Go ahead and edit away. I wish you were working at WILK and would edit Corbett's attacking good people. It is time for Nancy Kman to lower the boom on this self-absorbed, petty envious yutz.
Did you catch your buddy Corbett attacking Vince because of his salary. What is it with Corbett? Is he jealous of everyone? Vince raised a lot of money for the SPCA during his tenure. He was worth every penny, but as the economy soured donations decreased.
Why is it that Corbett attacks even good people and gets away with it. The SPCA is not a gov't agency. The SPCA does not take tax dollars. Besides the fact that it was reported in the paper, which it should not have been, why would Corbett pick up on it and assail a good person, who did one hell of a job?
I really think Corbett is on a self destructive track.I wonder if Rube Lomax screwed up his chance to get out of town again and now his hatred and negativity about everything comes shining through every single commentary.

I am strongly oppossed to illegal immigration. My Family immigrated
thru Ellis Island. That said,
Too many "people" in Shenandoah and the NEPA area are clinging to the, "If he wasnt here he wouldnt have gotten himself killed" defense. Its sick! These punks killed another human being. I hope the boys sentences are long for there is much to learn among real bad asses in jail. Maybe a Mexican or two would like a word with them in English or Spanish. As to the locals defending the act, there is I fear no cure.

I DIDN'T EDIT. FOOLED YA. BUT LOOK, CORBETT IS NOT ENVIOUS, THE GUY WAS MAKING A POINT ABOUT THE SALARY. HE HAS A TALK SHOW, HE HAS OPINIONS. I DIDN'T HEAR HIM ATTACK VINCE PERSONALLY, I HEARD HIM TALK ABOUT THAT LEVEL OF SALARY FOR A NON PROFIT. AND IF I EVER GOT A JOB AT WILK, IT WOULDN'T BE TRYING TO "EDIT" ANY OF THOSE GUYS. THAT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE. AND AS FAR AS CORBETT BEING REIGNED IN, THAT TOO WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE. PEOPLE LISTEN. YOU MUST HAVE IF YOU WROTE THIS COMMENT.

Corbett is heading over the top! Fred *******ville is in the future for a guy who at times is very good but stays in overdrive attack mode not knowing enough about the people he talks about to say the things he says! Steve does sound bitter at times. He doesnt need to be reigned in as much as redirected. I wonder if he listened to a tape of himself or met Steve Corbett just what he'd think of him. Meanwhile nothing succeeds like success and Kman has done well with WILK from a programming point of view and thats apparently turned into sales success. The Webster move was a good one too. I never listened when Kevin Lynn was on in the morning. I do now.

CORBETT NEVER COST US AN ARENA THAT COULD HAVE BEEN BIGGER OR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT LIKE THAT JACKASS OF THE 90s THAT WAS ON WILK. THERE IS NO COMPARISION. CORBETT ON HIS CRANKIEST DAY WILL NEVER COME CLOSE TO THE VENOM SPOUTED BY THE PERSON WHO WAS ON IN THE AIR IN THE 90s.

I hope I don't get edited, but I must chime in, I agree with the above. Corbett is definitely envious of others. His attack on Kevin Lynn was in part jealousy pure and simple. He couldn't stand the fact that Kevin got a better paying gig than his own. And then when someone discussed Kevin's own awards you could hear Corbett breathing heavy. As far as editing him, they shouldn't, it is too much fun watching him derail his own career. I also agree his attack on Vince was unwarranted and uncalled for. Who cares what a non-profit that does not receive tax money pay its employees? You may not think Corbett envious, but he is. There has been a darkness to him ever since Webster came to the station. (edited)
Mark this down, within a year's time, if Corbett doesn't recapture his respectfullness that made him popular he will be gone. Webster's salary plus the huge drop in the last book, entercom management is gonna start looking at not only costs, but who is alienating potential advertisers. These guys aren't nationally syndicated, if you are rude or damaging to someone, more than likely they are associated with the small business that make up the backbone of the revenue stream.

I DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THE WILK ENTERCOM PLAN BUT RADIO CAN BE A BRUTAL BUSINESS. YOU DON'T NEED AN EXCUSE TO FIRE ANYONE. CORBETT WILL BE HERE WELL PAST THE SECOND TERM OF SARAH PALIN.

it seems that the child of the 60's smoked too much dope and used LSD. Obviously the moron missed the point of the well thought out postings. These kiddies were volunteering and they are right sometimes a non vote speaks volumes. But WTF I never used the drugs most ***holes from the 60's generation did.

It's funny that people will vilify Vince for a *NON-PROFIT* salary in the 70's, but- What's the head of BC/BS making? Red Cross? Schools & colleges/universities? 70k to run an organization (non-profit or otherwise)is nothing. There are too many bitter people in this valley that envy everything & everybody. And Yonk is right- Fred (The Vopper) Williams was the face of those people. And as far as Corbett goes, when he wrote years ago for the TL as part of the Knight-Ritter organization, he wanted to be like Steve Lopez of the Philadelphia Inquirer, another K/R employee. (edited) As a plug for another Phila Inq columnist, pick up Lisa Scottoline's book at Sam's Club- "Why my Third Husband Will Be A Dog". Funny Lady...
